While we're on the subject of dates ...
This was a recipe that my mom made every Christmas. Much faster and easier than making the usual date "turnover" cookies. And sooooooooo delicious! She never made an individual batch of anything in her life. This recipe makes a LOT of cookies! * Exported from MasterCook * Date Cookies Recipe By : Damsel in dis Dress Serving Size : 24 Preparation Time :0:00 Categories : Cookies/Bars Family Recipes Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method -------- ------------ -------------------------------- 8 c Brown sugar 2 c Shortening 1 lb Butter -- softened 7 lg Eggs 2 ts Salt 2 tb Soda 2 c Water -- warm 4 ts Vanilla extract 16 c Flour 2 lb Dates -- chopped 2 c Sugar 7 ts Flour Combine first nine ingredients (through 16 cups flour) in order given. Mix dates, sugar, and flour together in saucepan. Cover with water and boil until thick. Place teaspoon-sized blobs of batter onto cookie sheet. Top with half-teaspoon-sized blobs of date mixture. Crown with quarter-teaspoon-sized blobs of additional batter. Bake at 350F for 15 minutes. Be very careful not to touch the filling while hot!! Contributor: Mom 0 |
