The Ed Sullivan show: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x93KArccaZg My mother loved them, too, which I found rather surprising. My father was more into big band music, the whole 1940's and 50's "swing" thing. Imagine my surprise when my mother got all upset at John Lennon's death. And George Harrison. Mom's words to me when we spoke were upon George's death were, "He was quite a spiritual person." Um, yes, he was. And when Linda McCartney died Mom said "She and Paul were married a long time." Um, yeah. They certainly were. I was rather surprised to find my mother was such a Beatles fan ![]() Jill |

Isn't it "Beatles", with an "a", not "Beetles"?

I remember where I was when JFK died. I was a baby... Well, a toddler, really, and it happened I was at the little house on Thrush Ave. My baby sister was crying and I couldn't find our mom (this was a 4 room house), and I was making another pass when I heard her in the bathroom. She was sitting on the edge of the bathtub, in the dark, with her face in her hands, crying. She said that the president was dead. Of course I had no idea what a president was, or what dead was, for that matter. but I cried, too, because seeing a parent in distress feels like the end of the world to a little kid. That is quite literally my first conscious memory, burned into my brain by the sight of a woman I regarded as a god reduced to tears. I remember where I was when John Lennon died, but as with JFK, it was the tears of others that made the impression. I was 18 and the receptionist at the doctor's office where I was waiting to be seen hung her head and wept. I myself cried for the loss of the space shuttles Challenger and Columbia and their crews. I cried again, years later, when I heard that Challenger's pilot Mike Smith's last words were "Uh oh", and that the crew were still breathing when they hit the water. And I cried with the entire nation over 9/11. |

All are healthy, happy and just enjoying each other's company. Isn't that what we most wish for our loved ones, that they are whole and happy. I hope thinking of your mom 'grooving' to the Beatles brought a smile to your face. Sometimes it's hard so soon after a parent passes, but every now and again the little things make you smile just thinking about what they are doing now. -ginny |

If Lennon/McCartney were left to their own devices, they may have continued to work together a while longer, I think each spouse saw their husband as the one doing all the work and both added their little bit of poison to the water. George Harrison was winding into his 'spiritualness' which the others passed thru like a fad and Ringo, well, he just went along for the ride. -ginny > -- > Wayne Boatwright > (correct the spelling of "geemail" to reply) > ************************************************** ********************** > Date: Monday, 12(XII)/08(VIII)/08(MMVIII) > ************************************************** ********************** > Countdown till Christmas Day > 2wks 2dys 3hrs 12mins > ************************************************** ********************** > A computer's attention span is as long as it's power cord. > ************************************************** ********************** > |

I was just leaving "Monday night at the ranch", our weekly guitar jam at a friend's place. I had just started the car and was waiting for my friend Marty to leave because he was parked behind me. He came over and told me that he had just heard it on the radio. |
