We are moving into high gear getting ready the kid to come home for
Christmas and for holiday guests. I started earlier this week with a major kitchen clean-up, including the oven, a massive clean-up of my basement. Since I was going to have to make a trip to the dump anyway I leaned out my bedroom closet and some drawers. Today I tackled the family room, especially my little computer corner. I threw out boxes and boxes of old floppy disks, old application manuals, printer ribbons, expansion boards etc. I went out and bought a nice Christmas tree and set it up. Then I tackled some baking. I made a batch of brownies and some chocolate chip cookies. While they were baking I decorated the tree. So now I have 8 loaves of fruit cake and a batch of brownies for the holidays. Over the next few days I plan to make some mince meat tarts and some shortbread. I am thinking of doing the Scottish shortbread that I did last year. I liked that stuff. |

People like you are why people like me go on a killing rampage around this time of year..........all I can think of is the old SNL 'commercial' about how Mom can do this, and this, and this, and this......and the question is asked 'and how do you think she does it? She takes speed!' I have so much crap to get done and all I end up doing is chasing my tail. Feh in your general direction....... -ginny |

I've offered those up on freecycle and nobody wants them! Same for the zip drives and disks. -- Peace! Om "Love and compassion are necessities, not luxuries. I still have 1 PC that has a 3-1/2" floppy drive, so I keep a few disks that serve as boot disks and utilities in case of problems. The rest of the floppies as well as 2 zip drives and all the zip disks went to the recycler. -- Wayne Boatwright (correct the spelling of "geemail" to reply) ************************************************** ********************** Date: Saturday, 12(XII)/13(XIII)/08(MMVIII) ************************************************** ********************** Countdown till Christmas Day 1wks 4dys 4mins ************************************************** ********************** DOS means never having to live hand-to-mouse. ************************************************** ********************** |

I have an 80 gig desktop drive I use for backup that does not take up any more space than a DVD. It's an Iomega. I only use flash drives to transport data from home to work as needed. > > I still have 1 PC that has a 3-1/2" floppy drive, so I keep a few disks > that serve as boot disks and utilities in case of problems. I have two identical drives in my desktop PC that are set up in a RAID configuration, so I don't really worry about other backups. >> I still have 1 PC that has a 3-1/2" floppy drive, so I keep a few disks >> that serve as boot disks and utilities in case of problems. > Mine is an older PC, but I've kept both the hardware and software upgraded, hence theoriginal 3-1/2" drive. I don't think anybody puts one in new PCs. Mine has a CD drive/burner. No floppy drive. My sister went that route and never went back. I still don't own a laptop. Just has not been a priority and finances are tight. ;-) -- Peace! Om "Love and compassion are necessities, not luxuries. You've inspired me to clean out a few drawers myself. I really don't know how stuff accumulates the way it does. > I went out and bought a nice Christmas tree and set it up. I thought my mom was nuts when she bought her first and only computer w/o a floppy drive years 4 or 5 ago. Why? She'd read that floppies were on the way out. This was before flash drives were cheap and common, but she had no use for floppies either so it was as good an excuse as any for her. LOL! RIP, Mom. -- I never worry about diets. Before you commit, take a look at the new hybrid desktops! http://www.dell.com/hybrid Now that I have a laptop, I know I'll always have a desktop too. -- I never worry about diets. I had an old one that never worked all that well as the mobile terminal that it was supposed to be but would have been fine for lots of other things. When I retired I had to go down to the district office and hand in all my gear. When I gave them the old lap top they were surprised. They didn't have any record of it or of me having it. They never would have missed it. |

It's way too soon. My old desktop machine has a lot of life left in it. It was cutting edge when I bought it, and I've kept it well updated. My laptop *is* cutting edge. It's the same model I have at work. By the time I'll need to get a new unit, I imagine there will be many unist like the Dell. That's a slick looking machine. -- Wayne Boatwright (correct the spelling of "geemail" to reply) ************************************************** ********************** Date: Sunday, 12(XII)/14(XIV)/08(MMVIII) ************************************************** ********************** Today is: Third Sunday of Advent Countdown till Christmas Day 1wks 3dys 5hrs 33mins ************************************************** ********************** All taglines are currently busy, one will be with you shortly. ************************************************** ********************** |
