: > > Snow is an absolute > essential for Christmas, Well we've been managing Christmas in the Southern Hemisphere without snow for quite some time :-) Snow may be an essential for Christmas if it's _your_ traditional Christmas but it's not necessarily essential for everyone. Now, we like to complain about the hot weather, and many people here will wish for a cool Christmas Day (especially those without air conditioning, or those cooking a hot dinner), but a Christmas with snow would seem wrong to me. Christmas is sunshine and stone fruit to me! Mind you, with the weird weather we've had lately - snow in November! one day hot, the next wearing a cardigan - I wouldn't be surprised at all if I woke up on Christmas Day to find everything white :-) Rhonda Anderson Cranebrook, NSW, Australia |

We're now waiting for our neighbour with a blade to get us out of our driveway. I'm down with a miserable cold and all my home remedies haven't helped. Shoveling snow on a daily basis and looking at gray snowbanks along the road. Other than that, snow is not a problem for me. My snowblower auger seized up on me this morning. I don't know what the problem is. I will have to call the small engine shop and have them pick it up for repairs. I imagine that they will be backed up with repairs. :-( We live on an unopened road allowance that we share with the neighbour. He has to go by our place anyway so I don't think he will mind doing our parking area. He is a good guy, not the the creep who used to live there. The old neighbour always waited until I did my end before he got out and started his tractor with a big blower, and the jerk had to go right past my place to turn around on the road. |

Coping is a big factor. Never used to bother me, but as I get older I like driving in it less each year. Good snowfalls are on weekends when you have all day to clear things, bad storms start while at work and make driving home a PITA. If it snows over night, I still get up at the same time and just go to work later, after I've shoveled. Not everyone can do that. What makes winter life easier though, is a car with remote start and heated seats. |

He is 82, seriously diabetic (on the needle twice a day) and goes skiing twice a week, at least. He loves the snow. -- Dan Abel Petaluma, California USA |

Alas, I have a bad set of knees and walk very carefully with a cane, especially in this weather. Not being able to be more active also makes managing diabetes more challenging. I used to do many miles a day on a stationary bike, but even that is a challenge nowadays. I have to find other ways to burn sugar.....Sharon |

It's easy on the joints and very pleasant, and if you really work at it, it will make you work up a good sweat. Both my Ortho' MD and the Chiropractor highly recommended it. I also do quite a bit of weight lifting now using machines. Our local City Activity center has both the weight room and the pool (as well as a 1/8th mile INDOOR "track") and only charges $80.00 per year for city residents. $160.00 per year for anyone outside the city limits. It's awesome. :-) -- Peace! Om "Love and compassion are necessities, not luxuries. Without them humanity cannot survive." -- Dalai Lama |

I've got 14 years left in the work force but am already facing issues caused by spinal degeneration. <sigh> I have lots of plans for retirement. Only time will tell. I hope that they have something affordable for you. Cheers! -- Peace! Om "Love and compassion are necessities, not luxuries. Without them humanity cannot survive." -- Dalai Lama |
