D heard my laments about the condition of my old smoker pit -- rust,
rust, and more rust. The firebox is about to secede from the smoker pit union. You can see daylight where once there was steel. I got my money's worth out of it, though. D bought it for me for Christmas in 1993, and it's been ground zero for countless ribs and more than its share of chickens and assorted other proteins. In the past 15 years, I've cooked ducks, turkeys, biskets, and a variety of roasts in it. It's been used and abused. Now it's just about done. They don't make my pit anymore. It's a New Braunfels Black Diamond. The New Braunfels smoker company as bought out by somebody and eventually closed in 2002. But there's a small steel fabrication business over in the county seat that offers homemade smoker pits for not too much money. Monday, I'm going to pick one up to replace the old Black Diamond. Merry Christmas barbecue pit! And a merry Christmas weiner dog pictu http://i41.tinypic.com/xnta53.jpg His name is Lefty and he's two years old. -- modom |

The door frame is fine... it needs paint, but there are no paints made for wood that won't crack/crinkle when temps swing from 100F in mid summer to -20F in mid winter. I suppose I can cover it with the same coated aluminum sheet used for rain gutters as some do but then that will seal in moisture and will cause rot... it's much better to leave some spots bare so the structure can breathe, especially around doors and windows. Sqwartz, you don't even own a door, very obviously... idiot. |

Yer not gonna BBQ him are you??? (Just kidding!) Congrats on the New smoker. I have one of the New Braunfels smokers as well (the factory is nearby here) and it's still in pretty good shape. I don't use it as often as I should but I do keep it covered. -- Peace! Om "Love and compassion are necessities, not luxuries. Without them humanity cannot survive." -- Dalai Lama |

It is a really cool laid back dog until anyone tries to leave. There could be 10 people in the house and the dog gets all worked up if just one person leaves. |
