Dave, that appears to be what's happening to Dunkin' Donuts. They've
actually had muffins and bagels for some time, but this newly opened shop
had far more of those than it had in donuts. I guess it's a trend.

Luckily, we have two suparmarket chains that have a wider variety and
better tasting donuts than DD has now. They're also remarkably cheaper.
They also have very good Danish and bear claws, everything make on sight.
If you're there early in the morning everything is wonderfully fresh.

I'm thinking it's all their stores. I used to like to get their custard-
filled donuts occasionally. The last one I ate tasted like instant vanilla
pudding. Disgusting.

Exactly! Uh, this is nothing like what they used to be,
I don't actually need donuts if it's too much trouble
for you to make decent ones. Instant chocolate
pudding? No thank you.

I want to check out a different location to see if it's any
different, out of curiosity.

I had scrambled eggs with a splash of hot salsa and a sprinkle of cheddar,
added at the end and barely mixed in.

I made popovers for brekkie after my first official rfc cook-in ...
wouldabeenabout 2002, I think. I made 'em in regular muffin tins. Along
with fruit salad. Kay Hartman pronounced it the perfect cook-in breakfast
:-) Blacksalt and her then BF-Now-Husband were there for that one. Kay
called Modom and several people talked to him but I was too shy.

cybercat,

My kind of breakfast and/or dinner!

Toast or waffles or English muffins with that?

Best,

TammyM,

Compared to a true Popover pan, there's quite a difference. The popover pan
cups are a tad larger, spaced farther apart and have a wider angle to rise.

Best advice for ordinary muffin pans is space them apart, almost
checkerboard style so they don't cook into each other. Spill some water in
any unused cups to prevent burning while cooking.

Do try a fair pinch of dried rosemary in a few!?! You can thank me later,
maybe. <G>

Best,

Andy

No, dahhling. My sister, who bakes like my mother did, killed me with carbs
over Christmas. Fresh croissants and sourdough rolls for breakfast and
lunch, and all day, English Walnut Pound Cake, cream cheese spritz cookies,
almond crescents, Jewish Apple Cake, White Trash candy mix (this array of
junk including pretzels coated with white chocolate), peanut butter cookies,
white chocolate currant cake (a moist yellow cake with currant jelly between
the laters frosted with a white chocoloate cream cheese frosting) tollhouse
cookies, sugar cookies, homemade cinnamon danish for breakfast, macaroons,
and many more. *burp* I must forgo the carbs for a while lest I blow up like
the late Marlon Brando. But I LOVE toast, waffles and muffins.

Unless it's a high end bakery, you're not likely to find eclairs with real
Creme Anglaise in them. Anything else is a waste.

Some sort of weird bot creating this perhaps when you are replying? A

I feel like a blimp, *foundered* from all the carbs 'n stuff. I have a lot
of stuff left and this is after giving a lot away...the amount this year was
simply immense and most everyone else had ridiculous amounts, too. On xmas
day I took some nice chocolate to my hosts, they said, "You can add it to
the pile..."...the entire double bed in the spare bedroom was covered with
candy, etc. All the packaged candy and such is being collected and will go
to a local charity...

I am craving broccoli and other healthy vegetables...crisp red peppers,
lettuce, etc.

I wonder if it is because more people baked due to economic woes? I tried
this one year and found that baking is actually pretty expensive. Then there
is the time I spent doing it when I might have been working.

Me too. Day 1 in Florida I went to the grocery and got red peppers, cukes
and etc. to make a raw vegetable tray to offset the sweets at my sisters.
Her kids actually love this, they ate it up. I have the same here at home,
and will have some tonight. Sugar pigouts don't really make me feel good,
after I indulge, do they make you feel good? I mean past the tastebuds. But
wow, there are some certain sweets I do love. Pound cake kind of things, and
that cake witht he currant jelly and white choc. cream cheese frosting were
cases in point.

AFAIK there are no Dunkin Donuts around here (SE Denver) but I
thnk I read that they are no longer making them onsite--all are
made at a central bakery (fry-ery?) and shipped to the outlets.

Last time I bought donuts, IIRC< they were <$2.50/dozen. But then
coffee used to be 15 cents. :-(

my oven went out on Thanksgiving Day. It cost me $199 to get the thermosat
(for a self-cleaning oven) replaced. Less than I thought it would. I'm
glad that I was able to get it fixed as replacing it (wall oven) would have
involved some carpentry work, etc. as the shapes have changed since this one
was installed (1986) Cheapest ovens I could find on sale that would do,
were $879 and $999. I wasn't looking for features, just a near fit. I
hadn't realized how much I use the oven.

$30 a pound for coffee? No thanks.

Funny how all three of your posts here have been that same
sales pitch.

I'm sure that's true in some areas, Gloria, but in the two shops I've
stopped in since they've rebuilt their shops in Phoenix, you can see the
fryers and people working with dough. The donuts I bought were definitely
fresh, but they just don't taste the same.

Put him in your killfile, and put yourself out of your misery. After
his last meltdown, I put him in my killfile. It's about time to take
him back out.

My oven was coming on spontaniously. I've no clu' what was wrong with
it, but it could have caused a fire.

I unplugged it.

Baking is "therapeutic" and so makes one feel good and virtuous...

If you can score baking ingredients on sale you can save dough, or at least
come out even. T-day and xmas are great times to stock up on all this
stuff...

I make a few loaves of five - minute "artisan" bread per week as a matter of
course, most I give away. A coupla of my biggest "fans" for this bread are
bartenders at my local watering hole. They'll keep my glass *very* topped -
up (they do in any case) when I gift them with bread. I don't do this to
cadge free drinks, mind you, but it "helps out" cost - wise I guess
eventually with the baking ingredients...

:-)

I feel extremely logey and sluggish with too much sugary stuff, it's a
feeling I don't like...

Mom's fudge and her banana bread really *send* me, fortunately it's only for
holiday time...otherewise I can do without all the sweet stuff. I do really
dig a nice apple or whatever crisp...
