Are you referring to the calendar in Outlook? I use that all the time at
work and at home.

I like yours.

Make the best of what is under my control.
Be a good sport and deal with the rest.
Eat out of what's stocked in the freezer more often.
Get those medical exams that scare the bejezus out of me.
Spend less.
Be more patient and tolerant but:

Spend less time on the computer.

(laugh) Whatever works.

I always have a calendar, it's hanging right here next
to me. Other than looking at the pictures, I don't think
to look at it. So to have this calendar thing that pops up
on my screen to remind me to do (whatever), I really
appreciate it. Especially those quarterly real estate
taxes.

Wow, you do love your calendars. I'm a Sierra Club Wilderness or
sometimes cat calendar type of person.

I think it's a nice thing to buy, there are so many great calendars.

We always seem to have a calendar with cat/kitten pictures on it. Last
year it was all tuxedo cats, of which we have three. Haven't picked up a
2009 calendar yet.

Our holiday gifts to our family are calendars with pictures I have taken
of our travels during the year. Each family gets an individual calendar
with the dates for for them and their in-laws, etc marked with clip art
like birthday cakes on birthdays, etc. I take them to Office Depot where
they bind them with a plastic spine and my DH punches holes to they can
be hung on a wall. There is plenty of room to writ things in.

It takes me days to make them and a lot of ink and special double-sided
photo paper, but they treasure them. For 2007, I was still too sick to
make them and they all missed getting them that year.

I use Word Perfect to make the calendars and assorted clip art from
greeting card programs or other sources.

Janet, that's a wonderful and very personalized gift. I'm sure everyone
would love them!

I'm certainly glad you're feeling better now. I can't imagine what you
probably went through. Gosh, that project is really labor intensive,
especially when you're making one for each family.

> I use Word Perfect to make the calendars and assorted clip art from

I didn't think anyone used Word Perfect anymore. I used it for years, even
the old DOS version, but finally switched over to MS Word, mainly because
everywhere I worked was using it. Didn't like switching back and forth.

For years I had food/recipe calendars, then New England scenic ones.
The past four or five years, I've had flowers from Hawaii, usually
for all of $1 from one of the ubiquitous ABC Stores.

I really like seeing tropical flowers hanging on the fridge. They
help me cope with cold and snow.

Ordinarily I don't like to pay money for a calendar... but this one is
worth it. I've had one hanging in my office for three years now.

"Incompetence" and "Meetings" are my personal favorites.

I LOVE the Despair stuff. Unfortunately you have to work where people
have a sense of humor. Otherwise it's a slippery slope from being
thought of as "so negative" to "not a team player". The pink slip is
not far away.

Since I spend a lot of time at my desk, I use a desk calendar. I ordered
this one from Ebay and the proceeds benefit an animal shelter.

Aw, that's cute, Becca, and the money certainly goes to a good cause. Only
problem for me is that it would have to be cats. :-(

Desk calendars like that one are hard to find. My 2008 calender is
exactly like this one, but I ordered it from the company, myself (I put
pictures of beaches on it). It was $30. I was pleased to find the
animal shelter calendar for $9, even though the calendar does not
include cats. They do include two horses.

Oh, on the month of February, there is a photo of a dog, and it says
"Jeb, who is scheduled to be euthanized." Kinda takes the joy out of
looking at the photos, if you know what I mean.

Yes, Becca, I do know what you mean. For about a month or so there has
been a commercial on TV for the humane society with many live pictures of
dogs and cats and truly heart rending musical background. I can barely
stand to watch it. We really can't take on any more animals outselves,
with 5 cats, and we honestly can't afford to contribute much. However, our
wills leave everything to an organization of no-kill shelters here in
Phoenix.

Time for a new picture on the mugshots page! (But mostly I want to see

They are gorgeous! Do they sleep a lot, or were these extremely
precious moments? How old are they?

That's another nice part about being a grandparent.

I went with my daughter to orientation - she begins vet tech training
Monday. The DVM who heads the program had each of the new students
introduce themselves and say a little about what brought them there and
what they hoped to accomplish. There were a lot of, "I've always loved
animals" (duh!) and warm and fuzzy goals, with only a few (including DD)
who had a specific focus in mind, and a clear plan for getting there.

The vet gave them a very frank assessment of Missouri laws (or rather
the lack thereof) regarding animal abuse and neglect. We live in a
puppy mill state. Warned them that they would be seeing things on a
daily basis that would break their hearts, and that the burn-out rate
was high.

I worry for my soft-hearted daughter, but I also know that she is
stronger and tougher than I ever would have given her credit for.
Several weeks back she was out on her horse with Scully, her BC, and
Yak, the stable dog, miles from anywhere, alone. Yak flushed a deer,
ran it down. It crashed into my daughter's horse, fell and Yak was on
it in a flash and mangled both of its hind legs.

It was screaming, there was no help and no hope, so she walked up on it
from behind, put her boot on its head to hold it still and put it down
with the knife her dad gave her for her 18th birthday. She didn't cry
until she got home.

Poor kid, I am sorry she had to go through that. Life is tough
sometimes, but she made it.

It's good to be close to nature. I bet she'll get through this just
fine. It appears that Kathleen has raised a realist.

Well, I was sick a lot during the pregnancy and didn't gain. I had to
take a lot of protein shakes and stuff...they watched me closely. The
babies evidently took everything I ate. When I started I was 180. When
I had my c-section I was 165. A week after I delivered I was 140.
Breastfeeding is keeping me from gaining.
