Default Happy New Year! It's good to be home

Daughter and I returned tonight to our home in San Diego through a series of
fortunate events...let me tell you, folks, this is the way to kick off the
New Year! First, despite the cold winds, our flight left Maine on time
contrary to the predictions of several people at the airport. We had a short
layover in Detroit, during which I noticed that the seats assigned to my
daughter and I were not the ones we'd chosen when we booked the
flight...they were several rows apart. Not being a very experienced flyer,
and being 14 (kind of says it all, doesn't it?) she was adamant about
sitting together, so I asked the kindly Miss Joanne at the check in counter
if she could work some magic and get us into two adjoining seats. She
mumbled something about the flight being completely full, tapped her keys
for several minutes, and produced to boarding passes which now had us seated
in first class...and wished us a Happy New Year! We were delighted, as it's
a long flight and it was very nice to have the additional legroom.

About 15 minutes after take-off things took a turn. They announced that due
to the heavy fog in San Diego, we were being diverted to Los Angeles for a
couple hours. If the fog hadn't abated enough by then, we'd be put on a bus.
Ugh. Then, in keeping with the tremendously bountiful day, we were bestowed
another gift...about 45 minutes prior to landing they announced the fog had
dissipated enough that we were going to land in San Diego after all! I can't
tell you how happy we were.

Happy New Year everyone...I hope yours is filled with luck and joy.

Yay! I was concerned how your trip there went.

Of course she was. Even non-14 year olds generally choose
to sit together on a flight.

Awesome!!! That only happened to me once, the guy at the
gate said Happy Easter. This was confusing because ... well,
it wasn't Easter morning or anything. Then I noticed Row 4.
Woo Hoo!

It's a very relaxing way to fly.

You would have been happy to wind up in San Diego as your
original destination, but to find out you were going to be diverted,
going to SD turned into a great thing! Funny how that works.

You too, and I hope your Christmas vacation went well.

Took us 26 hours to get from Lihue, Kauai to Las Vegas, NV. Overbooked late
planes, a sprint through LAX dragging carryons trying to make a connection
followed by a near collapse, hours of waiting in lines we didn't need to be
in, LAX to Fresno to LV on a turboprop, and rude airline employees. Not the
funnest trip, but Kauai was splendid.

All's well that ends well. Asleep at 10 on NYE.

WOw! The downside: once you have flown first class (especially a free
upgrade) it's hard to rejoin the Common Folk. Loverly, though, isn't it?

Glad you made it home safely. Where's the Maine update?
