Someone sent me a subscription to "Cuisine." There are no ads! And the
photos are food porn at its best. Also, the recipes look pretty good.

Yeah, that is one of the better ones I think. I also like FOOD AND
WINE- it has ads, but lots of food porn, recipes you may actually
use.

I agree! Both magazines are very good. I have to pare down my magazine
subscriptions, but neither of those two will hit the round-file, so to
speak!

Sky, who has way too many magazine subscriptions!

rosie, this one has recipes for grilled pizza and panini that look fabulous.
Not so helpful: a big lucious slice of Bostob Cream Pie on the cover when I
am trying to come off the Christmas sweets!

I gave up Bon Appetit (will read it monthly at the library). Kept
Gourmet (am addicted to Jane and Michael Stern). Am deciding between
subscribing to Cook's Illustrated and Cooking Light. At the library I
keep copying recipes out of Cooking Light and making notes from
product reviews and techniques and tips in Cook's Illustrated.

I like Cooking Light, too. It has a lot of recipe that I clipe and
paste into my recipes journals (aka those 'composition books' school
kids use). With CI, I prefer to keep the magazines intact and collect
those. But, I bet at some in the future years from now, I'll probably
discard those after I reread them & clip the recipes I want to keep.

Take a look at this "Cuisine" while you're at the library. Once you get over
the disorienting feeling you get from seeing no advertisements, it is a
pretty nice piece of work. I am with you on the acquisition of reading
materials. I use the library for most of my reading, unless I read online.
All it took for me was to move one time with a *&^%load of books. And I hate
a cluttered house.

I gave away about 175 cookbooks when I moved a year and a half ago.
Now I'm figuring out which ones I should have kept!

I'm afraid I read Bon Appetit and Gourmet in the library. The recipes
that I want can be xeroxed or found on the 'Net. I find the
concentration on women's issues in Cooking Light to be uninteresting;
tho' it would be worthwhile reading for the intended audience.

Okay Sky..

Just how many of those recipes have you ever made? LOL.

Christine, who shouldn't talk, as she hasn't used recipes from ALL her
cookbooks.

I have the same problem with Canadian Living. It's basically a women's
magazines...... women's health, relationships, child rearing, fashion,
decorating etc. But damn, they have some good recipes.

I try to stay away from cooking mags that are mostly ads. I like Cooks
Illustrated. My GF buys several of the Cooking Light and other Taste of Home
publications. (which usually entitles me to get a folded page and an
instruction to 'cook this' <she can't boil water w/o directions>.
