Usenet messages are disseminated to all sorts of message boards all over the
world. Google your posting handle and you'll see...

There are a lot of folks now that use bots to crawl and/or archive
usenet posts (mainly from Google Groups) and rehash them onto their
website. Some even add some rudimentary ability to register and/or post
on the thread on their site.

It's really all about adspace and email address mining.

I ran across this site a while back - the creep that runs it "borrows"
intact content from a variety of usenet group and pastes it onto his
own phony baloney site to make it appear that he has lots of activity
and worthwhile content. It's nothing more than a cheezy front for
getting clicks on his advertising and earning his lazy ass some easy
money.

Yeah. I've noticed several times lately that I've posted something
here, and then there's another question about the topic, so I'll go to
Google and it spits back the post I made earlier!

There are sites that archive newsgroup posts, and that's legitimate. If
your posts get misused, I doubt that there is much that you can do.

Lots of web sites steal Usenet group traffic and misrepresent it as if
they were their own forums.

Most posts here go in one ear and out the other. You get what you
pay for.

That's why I use my real name and not a handle so I make sure I get
all the credit.
