Default Optimum fridge and freezer temps?

Just out of curiosity I bought a two pack of thermometers made for a
refrigerator and freezer and put them in both. My fridge is running just about
32-35 dregrees F and my freezer is hovering right at 0 F. I just wondered what
optimum temps are in both. As cold as the fridge is, I've never had anything
freeze or come close. Thanks.

Your fridge temperature is certainly within safe limits. I like to keep
the fridge as cold as possible without anything freezing. Most freezing
compartments of refrigerator/freezers are not capable of much below 0 to -5
degrees, which is fine for short to moderate term storage. I keep my
standalone freezer at -20 degrees.

I believe the usual suggestions are 0°F and 40°F, 40 being the point
above which bacteria grow. But every time you open the door the temp
goes up, as it does every time you put something warm in it. So to
give me a little wiggle room I keep the refrigerator at a few degrees
below 40. -aem

I keep my refigerator on the thin edge of freezing what's in it. I like
my drinks cold, plus things keep much longer.

We just bought a new refrigerator. It came programmed for 37 degrees
F for the refrigerator section and 0 degrees F for the freezer
section. I have left it unchanged.

It's a bottom freezer, French doors model. This one:

(Our large barn refrigerator/freezer has been hovering around 25
degrees lately. It'll probably go lower toward the end of the week :-)
