Whew!
I was in town and drove past a McDonalds and an overwhelming urge just about took over the steering wheel! I'd seen a $2.00 Big Mac commercial on TV the day before, I think and not having one in years, I (I confess) was tempted. I regained control of the car AND my senses and drove home, feeling almost scared for myself. Whew! Andy |

But as a replacement, I do stop at Culvers (like I did yesterday for lunch) and get two single "butter burgers" with cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle and mayo. Pretty good fast food burgers for $4.85 (with taxes). I pretty much stopped going to MCD's on a regular basis around the same time as Burger Chef disappeared, and Wendy's started up. I also miss the original Wendy's burgers (you know, the burgers that required multiple napkins to eat?) I settle for Culvers now for take-out, and occasionally Ruby Tuesday's when I have time to sit and eat it in. Bob |

My preference for mayo on the burger came from when I was 8 yrs old, using the local busing system to get to my cub scout meetings. I had an hour lay-over down town, and the Big Boys restaurant downtown (1969) had *excellent* burgers, and their default was mayo. I got hooked on the default ;-) I also spent ~ 5 years in Europe, and the default in Germany (FRG at the time) was mayo on their fries. Personally, I loved the late night Currywurst mit pom-frit from the local street vendor in Karlsruhe before I got on the strasse-n-bahn back to the base rather late. Life has been good to me, and I really should be more thankful for the good things in life. I should show more appreciation to those that have contributed to the good things I've had in my life. And even though you don't wat mayo on your burger, I forgiver you :-) There is more to life then just the incidentals. Bob |

But hey, don't get me wrong, I had a big mac and fries WITH mayo (the default condiment) in Holland FOR BREAKFAST and enjoyed it. Took me quite by surprise. I worried about their scheduling all day afterwards! Mayo'd French fries and morning coffee? <VBG> Best, Andy |

I also loved how simply street food is sold there, without the excessive overwrapping and bags and trash we inflict on the environment here in the US. The wurst stands on found on many a strassenbahn corner often had quite a loyal following. I used to enjoy one before shopping at my favorite hypermarkt Vertkauf, in Wuerzburg. I never quite got into currywurst just because I had no desire for ketchup on my wurst, although loved a plain bratwurst mit senf on a brotchen. I used to work with the Bavarian Red Cross and while blood donors would be getting drained, some big guy would be outside grilling up the brats to feed the donors afterwards. Beats a lousy OJ and cookie hands down! |

Beats a lousy OJ and cookie hands down! You seriously made me laugh on two things. I loved the currywurst, and I prior to that disliked ketchup based sauces. The Germans made me think a little differently about food. The next example that I had that made an impact, was the sliced hard boiled egg on pizza. You probably know how well egg and tomato work together, but but until I went to Germany, it never occurred to me it (hard boiled egg slices) would work well on pizza. The other LOL, was red cross thing. In the states, giving blood in the military usually involved a half day off, a couple of cookies, a piece of fruit, and a small bottle of wine (of course this was a few days back). I would have settled for the Barvarian chocolates and a beer ;-) Bob |

Been ages since I ate one. Fat Burger edges them both out in flavorful greasy goodness. Andy |
