Another friend lives in California, one lives in Japan and my best friend moved back to England to take care of her mother. Some of the time changes make it difficult, but not impossible, to chat on the phone. I joined Facebook under my real name, so several of my friends have found me. I get drink requests and other things, but I do not know how to navigate Facebook. I will learn more, when I find the time. I am there, though. Becca |

I haven't joined any of the "social networks."
Youngsters probably get off on the popularity angle. I don't care to share my private life with unknowns. The world, these days! E-mail with attached files is quite sophisticated enough for me. Andy |

I've got a Facebook account or membership or whatever, but I use it maybe once or twice a year to keep tabs on my kids. Keeps them honest. I also keep an eye on their X-Box Live profiles and one or two other social networking sites they use occasionally. What weirds me out is the friend invites from customers, people I've traded business correspondence with but have never met in person. I get two or three a week and half the time I don't even recognize the name - have to search my customer files to figure who this person is. |

Yep..."TMI"...especially when the "information" can be of a "negative" nature. Some peeps are simply foolish in putting up so much personal info about themselves. I can think of two cases of former rfcer's where the info they witlessly posted on Facebook, et. al. was used *against* them... Anyways I don't get the concept of having strangers as "friends" on some of these sites. I post on a review site (Yelp) and I get messages all the time from complete strangers all over the place who have read my reviews and want to be "friends" with me. Thank you, but the term "friend" is something I reserve for real life...and besides which I'm kinda picky about who I have as friends, at the very least I want to meet someone in person before considering them a "friend", lol. IMO part of the whole reason for this phenomenon is the dumbing - down and infantilization of modern culture in general, I guess we are all expected to comport ourselves at the level of brainlessly chattering teenage girls ("Twitter"...). No thanks... -- Best Greg |

Yes, I have, I think, 12 friends on Facebook, mostly family, with a couple of high school friends who found me there. I see that many people just "collect" so-called friends to see how many they can get. I don't want to share that much information with most people. I have only one client as a "friend" on Facebook, and I really do consider him a friend. |

My nephew recently told me about checking out a guy on Facebook. They were thinking of hiring him and were going to call and offer him the job but someone suggested they check him out on Facebook. His page was full of totally inappropriate stuff, so they didn't hire him. |

We are kidding back and forth like we do in real life. These are people I see only every 4 or 6 years in person...and include folks in Australia, the UK, Japan, etc. I guess I had hoped it could be the same with rfc'ers. And a LOT of those I know in real life as well, and it would be fun to keep up with what is going on with them. I don't accept invitations from folks I don't know. And I am being cautious with what info I put out there. For those that are worried about that, there are choices you can make as to what is seen by others. At least that is my impression. I could be wrong on this of course. Christine -- http://nightstirrings.blogspot.com |
