sf, that's the best description of that hideous dress I've seen. She seems
like a nice person and is definitely good looking, but her choice in fashion
is beyond bad, even by AA standards. Even Patti LaBelle 80s spaceman
couture would have been an improvement. It was like tie-dye gone bad.

They had some silly NYC poof (Italian name) on briefly throught the day -
mostly in the evening - making with the catty comments about her duds. He
was going on and on about the gown she wore, saying that the "off - the -
shoulder" look had already been done on Inauguration Evening - by Nancy
Reagan! I mean come on, that *was* 28 years ago already...James Galanos is
long - gone and so nearly is Nancita.

When I first heard his queeny voice on the teevee I thought is was some
sorta joke, but no...coulda been a caricature *** guy on _Family Guy_ or
_The Simpson's_ or some such.

Now one queen whose Obama fashion commentary I've liked is Simon Doonan
(cre8ive director of Barney's), he's been on NPR. He is funny and
incisive...but this CNN fruitcake carried on like she's the head ribbon
clerk at Marshall's out for a pop after work or something, honestly.

Here are a couple of blog comments about Mrs. O!

Yellow dress…..green shoes? Who did this to her?

Mrs. Obama has a lovely face and a beautiful smile. However, the
choice of clothing does nothing to enhance or build on those
qualities. The gold dress and coat were old looking and frumpy...what
a 70 year old might wear. The ball gown looked like an old white
chenille bedspread and made her look shapeless and quite thick around
the middle. The black thing she wore to the national prayer service
made her look stoop shouldered and accentuated her bowed legs. Bad
designers, bad choices .... someone needs to help her.

Oh Golly, she looks like Big Bird in that mustard ******* atrocity! Or
some old, old woman in her polyester dress from 30 years ago. She
needs someone to teach her to walk like a woman instead of some
hulking dude in drag. She's thin, I give her that. As for this tacky
old lady poly outfit, send it back south of the border!

But you have to admit Ms. Franklin's HAT had to steal the show. That
hat was befitting the "Queen of Soul"! Mr. Song Millinery of
Detroit needs to be saluted! http://www.mrsongmillinery.com/

Fedora, t-shirt and shorts.... In public, I assume. In "winter", too.
Pass some nitro preparation, will you, please?

Now Fictor. Did I say anything about t-shirt and shorts? I didn't. Admit
it: I didn't. I am wearing a proper business suit, high-heeled boots and a
raincoat with that Fedora. You .... Spitzbubba.

And it's freezing here. Must be ... oh, I dunno, 55 degrees! <shivver>

I saw her live in concert recently and she had no trouble singing
whatsoever. Yesterday's problems may have been caused by the cold, or
something else.

Lotta really great singers out there who are pretty hefty, too. You
are incorrect in your assumptions.

Oh Puleeze. That off the shoulder look was fine as was the basic
dress, but I would have ripped each and every poof off of it before
she appeared in public. GAG.

I think she is stunning in whatever she decides to wear. I also think Barok
is a perfect compliment to her, looks-wise, but that isn't the important
thing to lead our country. He will lead us well, I believe. She
compliments him in every way we need to know about and a content man is a
productive man.

Oh m'god. That hideous hat looked ridiculous... but she's all about
show business - so it fit.

Seriously though, I thought Aretha should have spend a couple of extra
minutes learning the song. She couldn't remember the words so she
tried to sound jazzy when she drew a blank (I know when you're
flubbing up, sistah). She sounded more like she was singing at a
baseball game. Sheesh! She could have shown more respect for the
occasion than just dressing up and showing up.

You did! See

"I thank the good Lord I live where I live - record temps these past few

Good Lord, indeed, no matter the weather!

For Alex's sake, come to your senses! 55 degrees... that's Arctic
weather! Put on your caribou-fur-lined anorak and mukluks, STAT! And
do remove that unnecessary business suit, t-shirt and shorts... yes,
remove them....

ObFood: Ptarmigan. The recipe is from an Eskimo Cook Book of
Shishmaref, Alaska. It was compiled by the students of the Shishmaref
Day School in 1952.
<http://www2.grand-forks.k12.nd.us/iditarod/inuitrecipes.html>

Fictor
who did once ptake some ptarmigan, properly prepared

Ptarmigan

Take the feathers off the ptarmigan. Cut the meat and wash so they
won't have dirt or feathers on. Put in a pot with water and salt.
Sometimes people make soup of it.

<Cathy nods in agreement>

IMHO, all this yipping and yapping about her wardrobe was bound to
happen; goes with the territory, unfortunately. She also strikes me as
being a rather intelligent woman who has bigger fish to fry <OBFood> so
I doubt she'll lose too much sleep over it.

Short and sweet (or would that be short and salty?). Wonder if that's
one of the shortest recipes in the world?

Heh. Nothing too special about that hat, IMHO - that 'design' (or
something very similar) is very popular with quite a few of the ladies
here in South Africa - and I've seen some that are even more audacious.
So, next time I see one, I'll think of you... <g>

But seriously, if you're into hats and head coverings in general, Africa
is a good place to start looking. Seen some really stunning creations
here. Especially on some of the more senior women, who stick to the
more traditional stuff and wouldn't know a 'stylist' if one stood up
and bit them - well not all of them, I will admit...

BTW, think I know who Aretha (or her stylist) may have gotten the idea
from for that hat....

Pat Nixon *was* a saint, through the years I detected much suffering behind
the forced smile...a tragic face! I'll never forget that look on her face
on the day that her husband left the White House, a mask of tragedy.

And without Nancy there would have been no "Ronnie" [for better or worse],
she was "the force behind the throne", so to speak...hardly "glassy - eyed",
she was one smart cookie.

Another thing I like about Obama is his two - button suits, hopefully the
trend of those HORRIBLE and boxy three - button suits will fade away, they
remind me of something a Soviet Politburo member c. 1955 might wear. His
suits are union - made by a company right here in a suburb of Chicago.

Harks back to JFK, who appeared in a spiffy slim - cut suit on the cover of
_Gentlemen's Quarterly_ in IIRC 1962...

The Obamas are both tall and rather athletic - looking with a graceful
carriage, they wear clothes very well...the First Lady has great legs, it's
nice to see after so many years of dopey pantsuits hiding piano legs and
"cankles".

And it doesn't hurt that they appear to have a real affection and love for
each other...

Oh fer Alex' sake, that was 3 days ago. I don't wear my Fedora in
shorts/t-shirt weather, nor with shorts/t-shirts. Get a grip, man!
