She's no stick-limbed supermodel even if she is an attractive woman of her age. The only thing that interested me was I wondered how she could be sufficiently warm in that dress. She did not show any discomfort and there was no evidence to my eye of long underwear :-) -- James Silverton Potomac, Maryland Email, with obvious alterations: not.jim.silverton.at.verizon.not |

My mother's generation always wore hats: cartwheels, picture hats, derbies, cloches, pillboxes, whimsy veils or mantillas. It was de riguer when dressed up, unlike much of today's fashion. Elegant hats don't go with jeans and tank tops :-( Older black ladies still ear fantastic hats to church, lunch, etc. Our Denver paper does an article every few years showing the "Old Guard" in their distinctive millinery, much of it custom made by the few milliners who still exist. gloria p |

Okay, maybe that was a severe portrayal of Laura Bush on my part, but she was certainly as mousy and plain as they come. She was a First Lady with absolutely no style and who left no impression. She's not even good for caricature. So unlike Rosalyn Carter, who until Mrs. Bush the presented the picture of the most unassuming woman in recent White House memory. Even Mrs. Carter had her own opinions and she offered them without hesitation. She was hardly a script-reading librarian like Mrs. Bush. |

They're not elected nor hired. Laura Bush's legacy is that she was a teacher and librarian, and I've read that she's very shy naturally. She acted like a teacher and librarian and promoted literacy as her pet cause. No, not flashy, but why do we need a flashy First Lady? She was gracious to the max- just what we *do* expect and need. |

You are so right. Beyonce was born in Houston, and Houstonians have watched her perform since she was three yrs old. Her parents were determined to make her a star. She has had all the singing and dancing lessons you can imagine, but her voice just doesn't cut it. I was embarrassed for Beyonce when I watched Dreamgirls, because she was the worst singer in the group. She is attractive, wears revealing clothing and she wiggles just right. That obviously counts. She is a cutie, but she not Etta James. Beyonce http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J7Jwm9yCf08 Etta James http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1fSY_S45rZ4 Becca |

We found somebody, and someone on the committee started talking about what his wife would do for the church. I said that we weren't hiring her, and shouldn't have any expectations at all. She had a job, and her own life. We should make her feel welcome, and appreciate whatever she decided to do, if anything, in the church, but the days of hiring a man and getting two for the price of one were long gone. She ended up joining the church, but did not get involved very much. -- Dan Abel Petaluma, California USA |

Arf! Can't really blame the duds, Michelle Diller hasn't much to work with... nothing she wears can make that chick look chic. Notice how she must've been ordered to zip her lip, she needs to keep in dim light too, especially with those faces she makes. Barack Erkle Obama ain't no head turner his ownself.
