BO and his lady looking good.

Denzel looks worse than street wino

Beyonce does near creditable version of Etta James' At Last.

Who is doing Michelle's wardrobe, fergawdsakes!? That red/blk demo
convention night dress was absolutely hideous! Tonight she looks like she's
wearing gown by Charmin.

more to come.......

(laugh!) I commented that it looked like those toilet paper
wedding dresses they make at bridal showers. I loved the
gold number she wore to the swearing in.

It looks like a little girl dress up dress. Grow up and take off all
those poofs! At least the ball gown wasn't as bad as that awful red
and black panda dress. Michelle needs a new stylist pronto.

She's very stylish. I might not like every dress, but she
looks great anyway. Besides, it's fun to see the dresses, but
why should she worry what everyone thinks about her clothing.

Didja catch that fashionista queen that CNN had on yesterday commenting on
her wardrobe, pretty hilariously bad...I wanted to reach through the teevee
and bitch - slap "her", lol.

I think she has great fashion sense and she has great carriage so she wears
clothes very well...

That was a "panda" dress? All I could think of was a nod to Japan's
rising sun or something...?

He's been looking that way for some time. Not aging well, is our Denzel.

Oh, hell no! When will these singers learn to hold a note, rather than
slide all over the damn place? Get the hook, dammit!

More than that, Beyonce and whoever is producing her now continue to
mistake the volume of a song with the power of the vocal. Ain't just
about how loud it is, yo.

I think she looked good. She looks a damn sight better than horse-face

Laura Bush is hardly ugly, not is she particularly remarkable (way too
pale, IMO) but she's hardly horse faced, IMO.

Mrs. Obama's inauguration dress was quite well suited, IMHO. She's no
stick-limbed supermodel even if she is an attractive woman of her age.
The only thing that interested me was I wondered how she could be
sufficiently warm in that dress. She did not show any discomfort and
there was no evidence to my eye of long underwear :-)

Fifty+ years ago it would not have been so unusual. My mother's
generation always wore hats: cartwheels, picture hats, derbies,
cloches, pillboxes, whimsy veils or mantillas. It was de riguer
when dressed up, unlike much of today's fashion. Elegant hats
don't go with jeans and tank tops :-(

Older black ladies still ear fantastic hats to church, lunch, etc.
Our Denver paper does an article every few years showing the
"Old Guard" in their distinctive millinery, much of it custom made
by the few milliners who still exist.

Okay, maybe that was a severe portrayal of Laura Bush on my part, but
she was certainly as mousy and plain as they come. She was a First Lady
with absolutely no style and who left no impression. She's not even good
for caricature.

So unlike Rosalyn Carter, who until Mrs. Bush the presented the picture
of the most unassuming woman in recent White House memory. Even Mrs.
Carter had her own opinions and she offered them without hesitation. She
was hardly a script-reading librarian like Mrs. Bush.

The red & black dress that she wore on election night, looked like a
glowing lava lamp. Everything else she has worn has looked fine. When
someone like me, who is not a fashionista, knows the dress looks bad,
the girl needs some help, bless her heart. That dress was a dog. Arf!

No, she seemed to be struggling with the breath by the end of words or
phrases. There is no way not to when you're that large. And I LIKE her.

I don't expect my First Lady's to perform on command. They're not
elected nor hired.
Laura Bush's legacy is that she was a teacher and librarian, and I've
read that she's very shy naturally. She acted like a teacher and
librarian and promoted literacy as her pet cause. No, not flashy, but
why do we need a flashy First Lady? She was gracious to the max- just
what we *do* expect and need.

You are so right. Beyonce was born in Houston, and Houstonians have
watched her perform since she was three yrs old. Her parents were
determined to make her a star. She has had all the singing and dancing
lessons you can imagine, but her voice just doesn't cut it. I was
embarrassed for Beyonce when I watched Dreamgirls, because she was the
worst singer in the group. She is attractive, wears revealing clothing
and she wiggles just right. That obviously counts.

She is a cutie, but she not Etta James.

I thought it sort of chic in line but didn't particularly admire the
coloring. I also noted how the kids were dressed to accessorize her that
night.

Stevie Wonder was looking pretty portly at the Celebration party. He only
sang for a short time as well, looked out of breath at the end.

Sad, no?

Many years ago I was on a hiring committee for a minister for our
church. We found somebody, and someone on the committee started talking
about what his wife would do for the church. I said that we weren't
hiring her, and shouldn't have any expectations at all. She had a job,
and her own life. We should make her feel welcome, and appreciate
whatever she decided to do, if anything, in the church, but the days of
hiring a man and getting two for the price of one were long gone. She
ended up joining the church, but did not get involved very much.

I wear a hat to church every Sunday and often during the week. I don't
have many, due to a large melon for a head and the cost of custom made
takes my breath away.

If you ever get the chance to see "Crowns," don't hesitate.

I think it is commonly employed by little known singers to mask a
lacking of skills. It takes a hellafalot of skill to actually sing the
National Anthem correctly. It ain't an easy song to sing for sure!

That's for sure. If they don't have the chops, don't ask them
to sing it. Geez.

I always liked her and thought she was gracious, never heard a bad word
about her. After the termagent Hillary and all of her drama it was a
refreshing change...

Rosalyn Carter looked like the unhappiest person in the world on
Inauguration Day...she looked like she was going to her own execution when
she was going through the Capitol.

"... And life is like a
sooooooo-ong-ong-ong-ong-ong-ong-ong-ong-on-o-o-o-ong-- hey-ey
yeah-ah-ah-aaaahhhh..." Holy shit.

And the staging of that Beyonce number... the dance was supposed to
focus all eyes on the Obamas, and there's Ol' Yeller standing up on a
raised platform at the same level, sharing the spotlight and the shot
with them! Time to bring back decorum and protocol. Where is Leticia
Baldridge? Just sing, girlie, don't mug and don't try to "share this
moment" with the President!

Aretha is one of the greats but when she was singing the national anthem I
sure thought I heard a lot of "odd" sounds...

If that's a "panda" dress then that's *erection* night. LOL

Can't really blame the duds, Michelle Diller hasn't much to work
with... nothing she wears can make that chick look chic. Notice how
she must've been ordered to zip her lip, she needs to keep in dim
light too, especially with those faces she makes. Barack Erkle Obama
ain't no head turner his ownself. That's not a good looking pair.

I wear hats every chance I get in winter (shuddup, Spitz!). I have my
fedora today cos it's supposed to rain. I have a couple of "news boy" hats,
a cloche, others. I just like hats and I wear them well.

Agreed! I saw it in Phoenix with Jamie Utter a coupla three years ago. I
keep trying to talk our Mondavi Performing Arts Center folks into getting a
production of it here in Davis.
