I doubt that would happen to me unless I was leterally struck down. I'm
not a hypochondriac, but I'm off to the doctor at the first sign something
doesn't seem right. I proactively take recommended tests, etc. I just got
over a rather nasty head cold, but if I had the slightest indication it was
migrating to my chest, I'd have gone to the doctor for meds to ward off
secondary infection.

Even I tend to do that... It took me 9 months to get a second opinion
for my leg injury issues. The first Dr. was wrong and misdiagnosed so I
suffered for that long.

Why do we do that? :-)

Sort of like me. The ear problems manifested themselves a couple years
before the vertigo episodes. Not vertigo per se but I could feel the
left ear fill with fluid then it would receed. In fact the vertigo
started once I had my wisdom teeth removed.

I tend to dislike most doctors. Most won't listen to the patient (My
former ENT is a clear example of that.) and are too busy to treat the
patient correctly. The other thing is when I do go to the doctor for an
issue or problem I already know what it is, I just need a diagnostic
confirmation and the prescription. I'm essentially a doctors worst
nightmare.

My M.D. on the other hand sees a limited number of patients per week.
Spends a good hour or more talking to you, checking things, etc.

Human nature--except Wayne doesn't do it, and surely others are
like him in that regard.

Yes, I can see it... You suffering with your leg, an SO agreeing
with you that you really should seek another opinion, etc., etc.

I've had pneumonia. You don't have the energy to do it. Someone has
to pry you out of the house and take you there.

I believe I'd have thought to seek help before it reached that stage. One
doesn't usually become immediately too weak to move at the onset.

I've had pneumonia several times, both bronchial and lumbar. However, I
was already being treated before it reached a stage where I couldn't
maneuver. Timing is everything, with most diseases.

Yeah, that was my first time with it. I didn't feel awful, I was just
tired and got more tired as time went on. Now I know the warning
signs and get to a Dr before it gets out of hand.

I think we often define ourselves that way. <g> We try to gut
everything out and be brave.

It can get to the point of sheer stupidity, but some of it is a
financial issue.

I don't really have an SO. I made the decision on my own. I finally
bitched about the leg issues to my Chiro' enough where he referred me to
Dr. Perry. Perry specializes in soft tissue injury.

A lot of foot-dragging goes on in regard to seeking medical attention
because humans specialize in denial. If we don't go to the doctor,
we're really not sick, are we, no matter how much it hurts.

Yep.

In this case, at least I got lucky and got referred to the right guy.
But I limped for 9 months. ;-) The Anterior tibial strain was not
healing on it's own like things have in the past. It needed some
intervention.
