Yeah, we have no snakes at all.

Unlike a lot of NZ'ers I don't have any irrational fear of them. I've
handled snakes on both my visits to Australia and actually quite like
them.

Four metres of scrub python I'd be happy to admire from a distance,
though, it must be said.

Miche (hey, I wonder what it would taste like barbecued...)

Or spiders!!

You're lucky in one respect..... you can go traipsing through the bush
without having to worry about the 25 different species that want to kill you
:-)

You're the first Kiwi I've met or spoken to that doesn't freak out at the
mere mention of them!!

As a young soldier, one day after an exercise, about 10 of us were
'volunteered' to hang onto a 20' python, so that the stupid bloody Officers
that brought it back to Base could get a damn photo of it!!

Now *that* one was a handful!!

I don't dislike snakes, so long as they're not venemous! Surprisingly,
snakes are benficial critters, like bats. But, if a venomous snake is
nearby, then proper caution should dictate - hopefully! Otherwise, make
nominations for the "darwin awards"! Do not kill the snake <G>

You don't want to go anywhere near Stanthorpe and say that bats are
useful!!

Most times you can't see the suckers till you've just about (or have) trod
on them.

The only good snake, is a dead snake!!

Yeah, we do. The native katipo will give you a nasty bite, and we now
have redbacks that came in on shipments of jarrah.

Apparently they are related, and do interbreed.

Yeah, all we have to worry about is the landscape and the weather.

DH says that a lot of NZ'ers think that when they go overseas, the
snakes will be waiting to meet them at the airport.

Both times I've seen/handled snakes have been at wildlife parks.

And Glaciers dropping on your head.

Especially if you're Indian.

LOL!! I used to work with some *big* Maori boys in the nightime security
business.
One morning I got back from my patrol just before them and coiled a rather
large (about 4') dead snake in the sandbox we used to use in the office to
load/unload our handguns and then replaced the lid.

Man, you should have heard those big boys scream when they saw it when
they lifted the lid!!! One was even going to try and shoot it!!! :-) :-)

They spent forever trying to get me back, but never succeeded :-)

The first time I've touched a snake since I got bit by one back in '76,
was at a park in Bali in 2000. It was about 8' long and bloody heavy!!

I can tell you that my palms were a tad sweaty :-)

So now I've done it, I never have to do it again..... unless it's to move
it's lifeless body out of the way!!

It'd be a bit 'gamey' with the possums in it.

Smaller snakes taste better, anyway.

NZ have pretty stringent quarantine laws . I doubt that such a
"species" would be allowed in
