Default Philly Chicken Bowl........ GROSS!!!

Gluttony and strippers reign at Philly Wing Bowl
AP - Saturday, January 31, 2009 11:41:21 AM

In a gut-busting display of championship eating, a man nicknamed Super Squibb
has won Philadelphia's Wing Bowl by downing 203 chicken wings in about 20
minutes. For his efforts, 23-year-old John Squibb of Berlin, N.J., gets a
car, a $7,500 diamond ring and a crown of miniature chickens. And maybe a
case of indigestion.

Thousands attend the early morning gorge-fest held every year on the Friday
before the Super Bowl. The contest is sponsored by sports-talk station WIP-
AM. It also features scantily clad "Wingettes" and a cast of sickened
contestants.

Professional eaters were not allowed in this year's Wing Bowl, but organizers
say they'll be back next year.

Richard "Not Rich" Razzi came in second by eating 180 wings.

Peter,

They're only chicken/pigeon sized. Probably not an ounce of meat per wing,

They also don't Buffalo wing sting them with Suicide Hot Sauce.

Best,

Still, at about an ounce per wing, and 203 wings.... that's 12.68lbs, or
5.75kgs........ that's a *helluva* lotta chook to swallow!!

SHS would only detract from the flavour of the chicken!!

I prefer a sauce made of 1/3 BBQ sauce, 1/3 hot chilli sauce, and 1/3 sweet
chilli sauce. *Very* tasty.

Peter,

It's a glutton for punishment competition!!! What did you expect?

If they had a drumstick bowl, I'd compete, knowing full well I'd be out of
contention.

Ya think the Wing Bowl BUMS!!! cared about taste?!?!? It would certainly
cut down on the winning record if they did.

When not competing (HA!!! Never happened!) I prefer mild and medium salsas
for my baked "bbq" chicken as dipping sauces.

BTW, next year, Wing Bowl 18 invites back the IFOCE pro eaters.

Best,

Andy

I once entered a (meat) pie eating competition one Australia Day about 4
years ago.

I knew what the pies were like (bloody nice!!), so I allowed myself to get
roped in.

The other 4 guys went animal and scoffed about 3-5 pies each down, while I
ate a single pie at a more sedate pace and just enjoyed the flavour :-)

And I took a bite out of the other couple that were in front of me, so no-
one else would eat them, and got to take them home with me to reheat later
and enjoy at my lesuire :-)

Yeh, I saw that on the website.

It's absolutely bloody ridiculous the amount of money they can make by
just being utter pigs (shaking my head.........)

Hey - wudja just PLEASE take the Garibaldi bit off your posts? It's
gettin' OLD and it's a pain to have to see it again and again - my
scrolling finger resents it. And how about some snipping too. Wheat
form chaff and all that.

These are 'professional eaters' who compete in such contests for a living.
I'm not saying it is healthy, just that there are a bunch of people who
travel around the world doing such contests.

I used to have a couple of Golder Retrievers living next door to me, that
were walking stomachs.

They got into their feed bin one day, when left alone in the house.

The two of them cleaned up just under 20kgs of dry feed between them......
and couldn't move for the next 8 hours.

Then for the next 2 days, they were constantly on the move, planting a
'land mine' here, then moving 2' away and planting a 'land mine' there.
They virtually shit bricks for 2 days solid!!

I wonder if Chicken-wing man does the same??!! :-)

Janet,

Friday's Wing Bowl 17 DIDN'T include professional eaters.

Just the local competitors this time!

LOL!!!

The SO and I were out today and decided to have some chicken from the
local 'joint'. We got a 5 wing pack, with a small serve of chips (about
the size of my hand, and a bottle of water each. We brought half the chips
and one of the wings home with us!!

2 wings each, a few chips, and half a bottle of water and we were done!!

That's why I'm *utterly* astounded at someone(s) who could eat 200 odd, or
even 180 odd for second place!!

Peter,

The wings are served with the elbow to wing-tip removed, not the entire
wing. Not that THAT matters much! LOL! I don't know if that's a common way
to prepare them.

I've never been a wing fan. Too tedius, imho. YMMV.

Best,

Andy

Over here, we call those 'wingettes'. Like mini drumsticks.

I used to make them quite a bit for parties, but have moved away from the
sloppy/sticky sauce type and now just coat them in a seasoned crumb mix
and bake in the oven.

Less mess :-)
