I just got an offer online for The 2007 and 2008 books for $26.95.
Should I, or shouldn't I? Carol -- Change "invalid" to JamesBond's agent number to reply. |

They push hard to sell them. The also push their online subscription very hard, somewhat like Consumers Reports does. It's almost as though Christopher Kimball knows full well the days of the print magazine are lapsing. Cooks Illustrated gives advice on what to do with the very basic cooking, like roasting/grilling steak, making the best custard, making mashed potatoes, and so forth. They also do equipment reviews. If you go to: http://cooksillustrated.com/byissue/ you can look at what's in back issues, and what's most like in the annual books. You may know this already, but if not, hope this helps, Theron |

Also, if you have iTunes, (download is free) you can download podcasts and they are loaded with free information. Very helpful at no cost. |

If you have the money and don't get the magazine then it's a good deal. If you subscribe then it's just the magazines put into a hard bound book. Dimitri |

From Christopher Kimball's pbs program "America's Test Kitchen" you can get free recipes from the current season, but not prior seasons. http://www.americastestkitchen.com/recipehome.asp Christopher is "for profit" as they say. At the same time I feel I get good advice from his product. Theron |

I like them so much I bought the entire print run of all the annuals back to the very beginning. I find them fascinating reading. I get a new index every few years. The Annuals are the complete magazines hard bound with the lovely covers and all. |

It's a lot more economical (OK cheaper) to go to the library to see the recipes and pay $.10 to photocopy what interests you. FWIW, we have shelves in our library witgh donated books that cost anywhere from 25 cents to $2, with special books a bit more. I was there yesterday and saw about a 4 ft. wide shelf filled with annuals from Gourmet and Bon Apetit from the 80s and 90s. I was tempted but don't really know why because I'm not crazy about either magazine. I walked out empty handed. gloria p |

I wish we had a CostCo or Sam's Club less than an hour away from us. And a Trader Joe's, for that matter! Carol -- Change "invalid" to JamesBond's agent number to reply. |

Subscription to the magazine does not get 'entry' to the website, a separate subscription. Shame it doesn't, though. Oh well. Sky -- Ultra Ultimate Kitchen Rule - Use the Timer! No, all you need to do is register with the site using a valid e-mail address. However, as I've mentioned elsewhere, the free content on the site is only from the previous year, and it doesn't contain *everything* from the previous year. So I continue to buy the hardbound annuals. If you're not subscribed for "Premium Content" but you have the annuals (or the old magazines), you can use the site as a kind of index. Search for a recipe you want to find, and the site will bring up a page which states that the recipe is not available to non-subscribers -- but it'll also state when the recipe was published, so you can go back into your hard copy to find it. Tuesday Morning is also a good place to buy books a year or two old for deep discounts. I got a few years of food and wine for a few bucks each. For recipes I prefer them over CI. Lou |

My parameters are set properly, but apparently your news reader doesn't strip it automatically. No need to contribute to visual clutter more than is absolutely necessary, right? ![]() > >Alas no. Yeah, I could (sorta) understand a two tiered system where magazine subscribers are given a greatly reduced rate to online content, but apparently that isn't the case. -- I never worry about diets. I had planned to use it a lot more than I actually did, but it's a treasure trove of information. Based on the comments and opinions here, I think I'll skip the annuals and just go online again when I can afford the subscription. Thanks all!
