Default baby carrots

I have a question about baby carrots. Somewhere I heard these are just
large carrots that are somehow ground down to be smaller. The person
implied that buying carrots or making them created a lot of wasted
food. Does anyone know if this is true. I usually buy large carrots
and cut them into carrot sticks.

I'd never have believed that but, recently, I had occasion to slice some
"baby carrots" lengthwise and the central core, slightly different in
color, did not change in width from the thick end of the carrot to the
thin one so it looks like you might be right!

I thought they did them in a big pencil sharpener . . .

Unlike people, carrots are better skinny and sweet

That is really strange. In Australia, they are not *made* like this.
When I buy baby carrots they come unpeeled and with the greens
attached.
