Default offal fest

Well, not really a fest, but my sister came up from SC, wanted
chitlins. Not as hard to find here in the Detroit 'burbs as I
expected.

I'd only eaten them fried. Her's were wet, very vinegary. (Shut up,
Sheldon)

Stumbling through the grocery the other day, I found beef heart. Very
simple recipe - sliced, seared, then very slow with red wine, tomato,
onion, garlic, the usual. I wanted rice, but sister pushed for
potato. Spicy, mashed with mustard, a little horseradish.

Not my best, but tasty.

Ground tomatoes - opinions?

I can't always find them, but the best texture for sauce.

Ground tomatoes? If you're talking about what I think you're talking
about, I know them as crushed tomatoes and I like them a lot. In fact,
I was in Sam's Club yesterday looking for the Bigass can of them and I
couldn't find them. Lady said they've been discontinued. I have to
check another Sam's to see if they might be available elsewhere.

Ground are different than crushed - a little finer, but coarser than
sauce. Th e brand I like and can find sometimes is 6 in 1. They
claim to be the original. I first bought them for the cool label.
Label has been has been changed, but I still like the product.

6 in 1 are supposed to be very popular and have quote a follwing. But
I've never bought them due to their astonishing price - 3x as much as any
other name brand crushed tomatoes.
