Drumming around a bonfire has a certain primitive appeal... ;-)
I pretend to play guitar, but am better at drums. Never played any wind
instruments.

Supposedly.

Certain 'mens groups' run drum beating "retreats" in the Hinterland. They
strip, sleep in teepees, beat drums, and cry.

Not my bag.

I can play all brass instruments except for bFlat bass, bFlat trombone and
eFlat Euphonium.

Started on a Flugel Horn, went onto Cornet, Trumpet, Tenor Horn, Baritone,
Eupho, then Trombone (self taught).

Learnt Violin and French Horn at school, and taught myself Clarinet after
I got out of the Army, because I was bored..... and I liked the soothing
music of Acker Bilk. His music had "charms to soothe the savage beast".

I could read music when I was 8.

I regret not learning to play the piano and guitar.

I sing, play drums, and fake it with a guitar. :-)

I'm happy.

Yep. Apart from helping carrying bags at the airport, that was pretty
much his military career in total.

Whether it helps or not, this Hungarian hangover sauerkraut soup is very
good indeed. It is from _The Cuisine of Hungary_ by George Lang.

Victor

Souse's Soup
Korhelyleves

8 servings

1 pound sauerkraut
2 tablespoons bacon drippings from smoked bacon
2 tablespoons flour
1 small onion, minced
1 tablespoon paprika
1/2 pound smoked sausage, sliced thin
3 tablespoons sour cream
Salt

1. Squeeze sauerkraut well and save the juice.

2. Cook sauerkraut in 2 quarts water till it softens.

3. Meantime, heat bacon drippings in a frying pan, add flour, and stir
and fry until the mixture is light beige. Then add the onion and cook
for another 5 minutes.

4. Take off the heat, stir in paprika, and immediately add 1 cup cold
water and whip until smooth.

5. Pour reserved sauerkraut juice into a soup pot; add flour and onion
mixture, the sliced sausage and the cooked sauerkraut. Cook for 10 to
15 minutes.

6. In a soup tureen mix the sour cream and a cup of the hot sauerkraut
broth. Add salt if needed. Adjust the taste of the soup to make sure
that it si quite sour (somewhat like the hot and sour soup of the
Szechuan cooking), and pour into the tureen. Mix with the sour cream
and serve.

NOTE: This soup is generally served in the wee hours of the morning to
revive the guests in a private home or restaurant after and all-night
party. It is guaranteed to perk up all the tired, dizzy and confused
senses more than the "prairie oysters" used in the United States. This
traditional soup can be made in several different ways, but two things
must be common to the variations: the soup must be slightly fatty and
have a very sharp taste.
Another way to make it is first to cook pörkölt and use the broth in
which a lot of various sausages were cooked instead of water; then add
the cooked sour cream, some cooked rice and sliced sausages.

Not at all. I don't see the sense in paying hundreds of $$'s to "find my
inner self" by stripping off, painting myself and running around yelling
and beating a drum...... plus, I don't do the crying and hugging bullshit.

I'd rather 'find my inner self' by paying hundreds of $$'s for a holiday,
or a fishing trip with a couple of mates :-)

That's even better........ going out and 'finding your inner self' by
hunting and fishing!!

Of course you would rather pay hundreds for a clandestine holiday with a
couple of your "mates". Everyone is aware of your sexual orientation and
the fact the only way you can get any is to pay for it.

Apparently his entire military career was spent "protecting" passenger's

Yeah - and now it can barely manage to hang onto even one bag - or
perhaps I ought to refer to her as his 'sugar bag', since she's the

Might have guessed he did it first!

<laugh> I haven't read all the posts in this thread but I saw a clip
around New Years on hangovers. They tried a bunch of things on people
with hangovers and the only one that worked was more sleep. Even by
drinking more in the morning you'll still feel the pain. On the rare
occasion I'm hung over I'll have a bloody mary and go back for a few
more hours of sleep. It's easier if you sleep through the pain.

Honestly, it's many years since I had a real hangover but sleeping it
off, if you can, is often the best cure.

Yep!.. I'll have a few beers during the week but I only party on
friday or saturday night when I know I can get my 8-12 hours of sleep.
It's nice to have grown up kids so we can play on the weekends.
