You definitely have my sympathies: When I was still living in Indianapolis, I got robbed at gunpoint 3 times. Once by a guy who appeared to be white, once by a guy who appeared to be Hispanic, and once by a guy who was black. (He's the one who actually held the gun to my head.) Sucks, doesn't it? It was a couple years before I stopped getting nervous around *any* guys - especially anyone wearing a hoodie or otherwise covering his face. Glad you're okay, though. What Steve is somewhat referring to is "urban life is wearing"... I see the assorted jamokes of which he speaks, plus in my hood (north side of Chicago) it also gets really bad in the summer with all the obnoxious sports fan on the street attending Chicago Cubs baseball games at Wrigley Field, drunk and puking and fighting and stuff. I don't know why anyone would willingly move to "charming Wrigleyville"...or near any other sports venue for that matter. -- Best Greg |

Raleigh is pretty suburban sprawlish, but still urban enough and the smallest city I have lived in. I have friends in the worst sections of larger cities like NY and Baltimore and other places. (Goes with the historic preservation thing, etc.) The hundreds of thousands of decent people of color would not appreciate being lumped in with the very thugs who make their lives as miserable as they make the lives of white people. It's horseshit. |
