My "4-cup" cone-filter coffee pot
has served me well for years.
When it gave up the ghost,
I went shopping for a replacement.

Target, WalMart, Kmart, ( even SEARS ) No luck !

While there are several 4-cuppers available,
all use "basket filters".
( personally, I feel that a cone gets more out of the grains )

Shopped AMAZON. ( 4963 pots available )
Except for a few overpriced europots,
there was only the "TOASTMASTER" pot.
( I may have bought the last two available )

Who decides these things ?
Are American consumers anti-cone-filter ??

my four cup pot cracked at the top & i put it away, for an "emergency
use. i've been looking for a replacement for several years and have
still not been able to find one. you might try a garage sale or a
thrift shop. i'm in socal & volunteer at a thrift shop and haven't
seen a 4 cup pot. most of the ones that come in, as donations, are at
least 6 cups in size.

Cuisinart makes one. I've seen them at closeout stores.
I believe Emerson makes one with a cone filter but it's a POS.
Very flimsy, my friend had one, developed a leak in a few months time.
The cuisinart uses a metal carafe so it's unbreakable.

thank you for the info. i just checked the cuisinart website and the
price for a 4 cup glass pot is $14.00 plus shipping, with either a
black plastic or white plastic top. i prefer not having an electric
drip pot on the counter, and have used the separate 4 cup cone drip
holder & pot for years.

I have a cone one - 12 cup, but so what if you only make 4 cups? It's
a Hamilton Beach, I think (I don't buy small Black & Decker ever) -
has a "permanent" gold mesh cone, and I can put paper cone filters in
it - is that what you're talking about? I like mine, but only use it
once a week or so. It's got drip suspension (so you can take the pot
off while it's brewing) and a clock/timer.

I used to have a Braun - great outfit - free replacement if it's still
under warranty and they refund your shipping cost.

Oh, one more thing - be careful at Amazon - lots of their small
electrics and appliances are "factory reconditioned." If that's o.k.
with you, fine; if not, be sure to pay attention to what you're
looking at.

I have a 12 cup Braun which I have had for years. It is starting to leak
now :-( I dread trying to replace it.

I hardly ever make a full pot unless I have people over. I use it only
during the weekends and I am the only coffee drinker in the house. I
usually make enough for 2 cups. Works for me.

I have one of those one cup pod things at work.

Not grains, grounds. And yes, I agree, the cone is more efficient at
extracting, but only very slightly more efficient... and if one is careful a
basket filter can be used in place of a cone so that it works as well.

You don't give much to go on... do you mean an ADC or a manual drip where
you pour the hot water yourself a la Melitta:

My 12 cup ADC Cuisinart uses cone filters, it has a button that changes to
the 1-4 cup mode, I use that mode most times and it works well, with larger
amounts it makes stronger coffee but the extraction takes twice as long..

I think nowadays most ADCs are made for the basket filter because those
filters cost about half the price of cone filters... when cone filter ADCs
were more popular people would squeeze in the basket filters, saved like a
penny a pop. I have a huge supply of basket filters from my last ADC,
whenever I have company and make a full pot I squeeze one in, trying to use
them up, I have like five thousand, will take forever... if they weren't so
stiff from those flutes I'd use them for TP.

Obviously the basket filters are much cheaper to manufacture, they are
formed in stacks of like 50 at a shot... the cones are seamed and need to be
formed one at a time.

French press coffee has a compound called cafestol, which gets
filtered out by paper filters. Read the pages below:

I discovered this about a year and a half ago, and have relegated my

That is what we use most of the time when we want just a small amount of
coffee. For some reason the regular drip machines don't make coffee as
well in small batches. We have two sizes of French presses, one 2 cup
size that makes enough for two small cups or one large mug, and one that
makes six cups. I hadn't had much luck with French presses until I
learned to use a coarser grind.

It may be the four cup spec that's limiting your choice.
My last two pots were both cone, both 8 cup.

True. There's nothing preventing one from brewing less in an 8 cup pot...
my 12 cup has a setting for brewing 1-4 cups. I usually brew to the 5 cup
mark with the 1-4 cup setting makes stronger coffee... fills my big 12 ounce
mug twice. With coffee 6 ounces is considered a cup, but because of what
water is absorbed by the grounds it yields somewhat less coffee.
