Thanks Gloria, I will keep an eye out for Comice pears.

Thanks, I may try some Bosc pears. I love fruit, but pears were never
my favorite (maybe it was the pears my mother grew?). When this gift
came in the mail, I was not excited about it, until my oldest son
tempted me into tasting the pears. I am glad he did, they were wonderful.

Oh, no, I hate the dried ones, but I can eat the fresh ones all day
long. Yumma. When my aunt cut down her gigantic fig tree, I cried.

For me, sweeter isn't necessarily better. In fact, I prefer fresh fruit
to dried in all but two cases -- I dislike plums and papayas when
they're fresh, but I like the dried fruits fine.

I like fresh plums, but I have to agree with you about papaya. I do
*not* like fresh papaya, but I love it dried.

I've not had properly ripened papaya often, mainly on vacations in
Hawaii. While it tastes pretty good for a change, I find the very
sub-acid taste gets boring.

What is it about fresh plums you don't like, and there are hundreds of
varieties, but you like dried plums (prunes).

Papaya is very relative--the huge Mexican ones are flavorless and terrible.

The small ones from Hawaii are sweet and juicy and wonderful.
When we were in Hawaii with our grandson who was two years old at the
time, we successfully substituted papaya for his beloved cantaloupe and
he never noticed the difference. It was delicious.

IMHO the best papaya is grown in Thailand, as is the pineapple. Whenever
we were in Thailand I ate lots of papaya and pineapple. Might explain
the weight I put on back then.

Nope, cramming with papaya and pineapple would likely make you lose
weight... it was all the fried plantain and pork (Spam) you pigged out on.
