My bet is that I will probably end up playing on the XBox. I have no
interest in the Academy Awards. It is nothing more than a bunch of
Hollywood hype. What a sham. Members of the academy get to vote on the
*best* without ever having to see all the competition. I had to laugh
at an episode of "Extras" where Ricky Gervais' character character tells
Kate Winslet that she is brave to take on a part in a Holocaust movie
and she says that it is the best way to get an Oscar nomination and
points our a string of Holocaust movies that got Oscars.

My bet is that I will be in bed barely by the time it's got underway. We
haven't seen a single film this past year that was nominated.

Unfortunately, I'm watching it. Hubby likes it. Sigh.

The only two movies we've seen all year are Mamma Mia and Slumdog
Millionaire. The former was fun, the latter wonderful even though
it was more violent than what I usually watch. I loved it.

I think I have watched about three Academy Awards nights in my lifetime.
I don't enjoy most movies and I never recognize actors so why bother.

That makes two of us. Maybe we should start a club!

Years ago I would never miss watching the Academy awards, but then, I had
seen the majority of major films that were nominated and most of the actors
were very well to known to most people.

The Academy Awards don't interest me except for the opening.
I recorded it last night because I think Hugh Jackman is all that,
but I haven't watched it yet. Who won? I really couldn't care less,
but I can see that people enjoy making a night of it. Not being
much for movies, I often don't know who the winners are, either.

According tot he news, they gave the Posthumous award to a dead actor.
Would have made more sense to give it to somebody alive that could use it.

Yes it would, but that is not the Academy's way. It has a lot more to do
with promoting their own films than a credible rating of films. Winning
an Oscar or even being nominated for one means a lot less to me than
winning some of the film festival awards.

Posthumous awares are geenrally given to dead people. :-) I'm sure this
award meant a lot to Heath Ledger's family.

It makes sense to give the best supporting actor award to the person who
earns it. In this case, it was Heath Ledger. I saw Dark Knight and more
movies over the years than I can count. Heath Ledger's performance as
the Joker was outstanding. Ledger really brought the Joker character to
life in a way that has never been done before. Heath Ledger earned that
award. Him having passed away does not undo that fact.
