Default Food Hunt!

I will be visiting the States in December for one month. Two weeks in
Orlando Florida, then in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
What specialities should I be looking for in these places? I mean the
sort of foodstuff I wouldn't see anywhere else i the country.
Thanks

Neil, there was just a thread regarding what foods are unique to pittsburgh.
Check that out as we got the full lowdown on the place. As for Orlando,
there are more qualified people here to guide you than I am.

Good Luck

Neil, when in Orlando, you'll have to leave the touristy area and visit a Cuban
restaurant (Don Pepe's is my favorite). You can find some Florida seafood at
Straubs in Altamonte. Bahama Breeze is a chain, but they specialize in
Carribean, which may or may not be served elsewhere, I'm not sure. But if you
really want to sample the best of Florida, if you have time, drive to New
Smyrna Beach (about a hours drive northeast of Orlando), take A1A to JB's Fish
Camp and sample some local oysters, clams, crab, gator, grouper, Key Lime pie,
rock shrimp, scallops, and much more.....email me for more info if you need
directions.

That's cool, I'm coming with the whole family and am happy to pay my
own way :-)

Yeah, Yeah, it's than newfangled Modern 21st century, Florida hospitality. Not
like the older, Southern Hospitality that you hear so much about, and probably
not even related to Minny Soda hospitality. I don't notice any responses at all
from the Pittsburgh area.

Neil,
If you like great seafood, I've got to recommend Dixie Crossroads, just a fairly
short drive east of Orlando, almost to Titusville. You'll want to visit the
Kennedy Space Center while you're in Florida, and you'll pass Dixie Crossroads
on State Road 50 on the way.

I repeat my offer, and I'm not sure that I can meet for lunch, depending on
schedules, etc, BUT if our schedules permit, I'd be happy to meet you for a
lunch.

Well, you *did* change my approach. I'm still trying to find good, regional
foods (that are still open) that don't exist on Mouse property, not that there
is anything wrong with that. MOF, there ars some excellent eating
establishments at D. World.
