I think the plain old time tested Pyrex measuing cups with *handles* are in
infinite ways far superior, and a set of the same three sizes costs about
*half* as much. How pray tell will you lift those fercoctah sillycone cups
when they're filled with HOT liquid? Don't by them, they're unsafe.

Amen to that! Very bad idea for any hot liquid, as well as the fact
that spilling can happen easily. The only thing those are good for is
being able to "pinch" them so as to pour such as flour into a beaters-
running mixer bowl sparingly to avoid showering dry ingredients
about. For that one good-to-buy-em feature, just spend a couple
dollars on a flexible cutting mat, or spoon in the drys.

Hey! Aren't they silicone like silicone gloves and hot pads? I do
worry about the ability to stand up to an immersion blender.

Nice. But $25 is pretty steep, I think.

Especially for silicone. I have a single pyrex meauring cup, the usual kind.
It works great, but I hardly ever bake or do other stuff where you need to
measure several things at once.

Given the feedback here, if you *do* buy them, I'd be interested in your
opinion after using them for a few months.

I wish either Pyrex or Anchor Hocking would bring back the cups with the
loop handles. I hate the current style of handle and find them hard to
hold.

But loop handles are not recommended for use in a microwave. I think that's
about when the change occured.

LOL! And I have six. :-/ The 2-quart one/s get a lot of use for
mixing or microwave cooking. I have a pound of dried apricots soaking
in one right now. It's easy enough for me to use all of at one time.

I love the 2-quart one!!! It's in use all the time. I haven't seen one
around in the stores for a long time. I suppose if I ever need another one
I'll have to order online.

Why is that? I nuked a cup of water in a loop-handled 1 C Pyrex measuring
cup several times a day for 12 yrs. Still got it.

I have one and two-cup Pyrex liquid measuring cups and a a set of oval SS
dry measure measuring cups. Not to mention the typical measuring spoons
that I liberated from the "containment" ring.

With the Pyrex cups you can safely nest the B, C, and D cup, but the A cup
can jam and chip the rim of the C cup (mine got like six small chips that
way, polished with emery paper). I don't nest any of them anymore, and the
one I want is invaribly always on the bottom. I use the B cup most, C cup
next, then the D cup... I use the A cup least... anyone considering a set
could easily live without the A cup (like no one needs an A cup bra either).
The D cup makes a great mixing/storage bowl... with my KA hand mixer I don't
need a stand mixer.

I love pyrex for everything but baking dishes, meaning the flat rectangular
kind. I still like the round ones with the lids. My measuring cup is a
2-cup.

A lot of the comments here make sense. I am going to at least go look at
them. They look neat to me and they would store easily and they won't chip.

that would be my objection as well. you could break a lot of pyrex for
that.

I have to wonder if they are flexible enough to form spouts to pour if
they might also get accidentally squished and slop the contents before
you are ready to pour. I would not be without my 2 cup Pyrex measuring
cup, but I also have a one cup stainless and a set of nesting cups in a
ring with 1, 1/2, 1/3, 1/4 and 1/8 cup size that are great for measuring
out packed brown sugar.

And I'd think the hotter the contents the more those cups would distort,
probably even squish right out of your hand as you try to hold onto it by
gripping it tighter. To me they're not just silly, they very dangerous. I
have some silicone scrapers/spatulas. I know they become far more piable
when using them with warm/hot ingredients, in fact that's why I only use
them with room temperature/cold ingredients. Pyrex measuring cups have been
around a long time, I don't think anyone will come up with something better
for an even longer time, probably never. I have a set of dry measure cups
(Rubbermaid), they're pretty thick white plastic and have nice sized
handles, they all nest... I rarely use them... I have the ring of measuring
spoons to match, don't use those either (good toddler toys). These cups and
spoons came with some kitchen stuff set I got for opening a bank account,
too long ago to remember. It's very rare that I measure anything when
cooking... I have bionic eyes and hands. Mostly I use my Pyrex measuring
cups to heat stuff in the microwave, to store loftovers, and as mixing
bowls. I always know exactly the right amount of ingredients to add to a
pot regardless how large, when it's full... the very first thing I choose
when cooking soups and stews is the size pot.

Indeed. When I make jam I pour the jam from the kettle to the Pyrex
2-quart pitcher and fill the jars from that. It works slicker'n snot.

I tried to find the old Anchor Hocking 2-quart... mine after years of use
is looking tired. Pampered Chef I believe makes one but there are no
measurements on it.

Oops... I stand corrected... looks like it does have measuring marks on it
now.

That may be, but I had not heard that. I've been using them in the
microwave for at least 20 years with no problem. One cup thru four cup
capacities.

That's true, but I don't need to. I have an entire cabinet shelf devoted to

I've got a couple of DD cups, but they're not in as good a shape as

I've had plenty of cramped kitchens before, Barb, where things were stacked
on top of one another and the excess had to be stored elsewhere. When we
were laying out this one, I made sure I probably wouldn't outgrow it. It's
by no means an elegant or designer kitchen, but it has plenty of room.

Anchor Hocking still makes their "batter bowl" 2-qt measuring cup. The
measurements are molded into the glass. They're fairly widely availble.
Here's an example:

I've got a couple of DD cups, but they're not in as good a shape as
they used to be . . .
Lynn in Fargo

Ya know, I can still drive NY to Fargo straight through in like 35 hours but

I bought one at a store and found another at a yard sale for $1.00. The one
I bought at the store has the lid. I find them really handy, both for
measureing and for pouring batter for pancakes, waffles, and muffins.
