Default In-n-Out burgers for dinner, mmm mm!

Home made of course, since they don't seem fit to open
one around here.

Complete with vanilla milkshake.

Thanks, I have heard heard of them. Too bad there isn't one
near me, but if I pass one, I'll stop in. I do love a good burger,
and the milkshake doesn't hurt, either.

Really? It has been a long time since I went to Fuddruckers and my
memory tells me it was awful.

There is a local restaurant review program (a really generous
description by the way - since it is more like a half hour commercial
for certain restaurants who also happen to be advertisers)Fuddruckers is
often highlighted for best burgers. But those segments are usually
followed by a commercial for Fuddruckers.

But again, it has been a while since I had one. There used to be quite a
few in the Boston area but they closed not too long after opening.

As with most chain businesses of all ilk, they are only as good as the
local staff. The Fuddrucker's in our neighborhood is really quite good, as
is the In-n-Out Burger.

I can't recall ever being displeased with Fuddruckers.

OT, but a number of years ago my next door neighbor took some Australian
co-workers to our local NASA area Fuddruckers which is across the street the
main entrance to Johnson Space Center. Prior to their going the Aussies
were underwhelmed about meeting astronauts who frequent there. When they
actually met the astronauts who had just returned from a mission, they were
totally awestruck.

Good milkshakes too. I should quit being so darned cheap, and eat
there more often. I just joined their club, so hopefully they'll send
me some money saving coupons

It;'s been years since I've been to one. I think I even have one on
the way home from work. Do they cook their burgers over fire or on
a hot metal slab? If the later, then that's why I don't remember
them.

They've gotten very mixed reviews here in Austin. Mostly negative,
mostly way overpriced.

There are plenty of places to get reliable burgers in town that I
don't have to try one that may be iffy and pay twice the price.

My burgers come from the Central Market Cafe. 1/2lb of USDA Choice
Sirloin, with two full slices of applewood smoked Berkshire bacon,
and your choice of practically any cheese in the store, plus the
best fries in town for $8.50. And a great condiment bar. The same
order at Fuddruckers would cost $1 more.

We have a fuddruckers "next" to a century 21 theater here, but I've
never been there. It's obviously a chain... but it's nothing like
In N Out. Red Robbin would be a better comparison.

Really? Now it sounds like a combination of Slider's and Red Robbin.

Fuddruckers was decent. Not greatness.

I didn't like standing there in line while they cooked it, then having to
dress it.

Their quick demise was the bad choice of location, which was in a below
street level strip mall that the world drove past unknowing.

I tried a Red Robin bonzai (a pineapple/lettuce/tomato/cheese) burger. Tasted
as bad as a whopper.

Now, sf, get yourself to "The Smokehouse" on Telegraph Ave. in northh
Oakland, a few blocks north of Alcatraz Ave., and have yourself the "burger
that kept me alive!!!" Or not.

sf,

I haven't been there since... (?) ...2003 road trip.

According to a quick google they are flame broiled. I looked at a few
burger ratings for my city and there's no mention of Fuddruckers.

Yep. Typical chain and I'm not crazy about getting my condiments out
of a tray that's had 50 hands in before me. Same thing with a salad
bar.

Oh Please! The Smokehouse? vastly over rated imo and just a few blocks a
way from Flint's on Shattuck. Its really only acceptable on a nice day
or warm evening with the out door seating and all.

Though when i lived just up the block from them i had more than my share
of the big chili burgers

I used to like the old "Quick - Way" on Tele. near down town Oak. for
their deep fried shrimp usually only purchased after a late night of
carousing. But it changed menus & owners 5 years or so ago, and no
more shrimp.

JL,

Who DIDN'T love Flint's BBQ!??

Their neon yellow potato salad was almost awe inspiring. And the monster
spare ribs!!!

Great BBQ!!!

Nods to Flints!!! What a tucked away neighborhood treasure!!!

Christine,

Have you seen the changes in the neighborhoods over the years?

I didn't recognice much of it last time. Even Grizzly Peak has overgrown. :

Actually, Christine, I was just kidding you. Remember HOME is where the
heart is. Your's apparently lies in California. I hope you reach your
goal.

As my roulette buddy Tony Bennett sang so well, "I left my heart... and my
wallet in San Francisco!"

Seriously though we did gamble together at roulette once. Had the roulette
table to ourselves for about 1/2 hour. He taught me how to correctly tip
the croupier when I won.

He jovially punched me in the shoulder as he was leaving. We wished each
other well and he left.

The croupier asked me if I knew who the man was and I shrugged and said no.
He told me "that was Tony Bennett!"

I thought with some surprise, Tony Bennett taught me how to play roulette?!
Resorts Casino, Atlantic City

Sorry for being so long winded. Fun experience.

There used to be a couple of Fuddruckers here in Australia.

One in Sydney, and the other in Brisbane's CBD near Waterfront Place on
the river.

That was probably the mid-90s. Both since long gone.
