Dad likes to make turkey spam omelets. I am so not a fan! I've been living low sodium for 16 years now. A couple of weeks ago, I'd signed up for some volunteer work with our local CPA Alumni Association (which I am a member of) to do Warrant calling for the county Sherrif's dept. warrant officer. (Rusty is a hoot. Never **** off your local cops, they will amuse themselves at YOUR expense!) They served us BBQ Brisket. The Brisket was so salty I could barely choke down one slice. It was like eating a salt shaker. I gagged when I saw another volunteer salting it. <gag gag gag>... -- Peace! Om I find hope in the darkest of days, and focus in the brightest. I do not judge the universe. -- Dalai Lama |

How much does that 12 oz can typically cost? Something like three dollars? That comes out to 4 dollars a lb. Hardly a bargain. There's a lot of fat in there and not 'reusable' fat the way bacon or chicken fat is. Tube biscuits aren't that cheap either. We don't pay 4 dollars a lb for chicken or pork even when they're not on special. |

A guy that likes to throw "numbers" and "figures" about and use "addition" and "division." You might be right on a technical level and maybe even on most levels you can think of. However, let's just see how far all that fancy schmancy logic will get you when you're in your cardboard box dying of hunger with that $2.19/lb chicken or pork butt with not even a pot to **** or cook in. I'll be sitting pretty under that overpass outside of town with my cans of spam enjoying their pink salty gel-like goodness, washing it all down with rain water and occasionally some hobo coffee. Tube biscuits? Euuueech! |

I see Spam as poor-folk food and a war-time item that refused to just go away. My mom used to make a Spam and cabbage dish that I disliked greatly. Phooey! OTOH, if you consider the cost per pound and the expense on your health it's cost is great. > > >> Tube biscuits? Euuueech! > > Have had worse 'homemade' biscuits. Now I can't remember when was the last time I made biscuits from scratch. Guess I'll have to work at correcting this. :-) |

After I read Chris's comment, I checked it out at the local store. There were shelf tags for cheaper biscuits (well over a dollar) but none in stock. Furthermore, they weren't within reach for normal people. At eye level, most of the stock was marked on sale for US$2.00, normally US$2.99. They were large biscuits, but not a lot of them. We don't eat biscuits at our house, and I guess other folks around here don't either. -- Dan Abel Petaluma, California USA |
