Frugal tip: buy it in 2 lb. bag from Costco, Sam's etc - freeze half of it. BIG savings vs. what those little jars and envelopes cost. |

Buy it at costco in 500 gm bags, freeze it and use as necessary. Allows all the flexibility you need; use less for a starter or a biga, a big more for emergency pizza, etc. You don't have to waste one of those little packages. It freezes very well. Mine has been in the freezer for a year and works exactly as when purchased. Don't worry about "so called bread machine yeast". Hugh |

Thanks! Yahbut, what's the shipping on the one lb bag? I have no problem finding jars of SAFE or Red Label breadmaker yeast in the local supermarkets. Asked them several years ago to stock it and they still do. Guess I'm not the only one in the town that bakes bread. |

(i will admit it may be a mark of failure of the socialist government that you can't spell 'capitalist.' or maybe you are just stupid.) blake |

That includes my former domicile of Texas, where calling someone a socialist could get you shot by a legally-carried concealed weapon. It also includes my current domicile of Washington, where (at least in my neighborhood) calling someone a socialist could get you invited to their next meeting and vegan potluck (OB food). We also have legally-carried concealed weapons, very few outright socialists, or at least socialists that will admit they are socialists, lots of dead beats and scoff laws, and the best politicians money can buy. I always check the shipping costs against our local sales tax just to see what the difference is. Sometimes you pay the shipping costs because it is an item you need or just really, really, want. |
