recipe from manual stipulates "bread machine yeast". I have only
Fleischmann's active dry yeast (fresh). Does it really matter if it's not
bread machine yeast? Thnx.

Same thing. Use 2 ts for almost all recipes.

Naaah - use it. Frugal tip: buy it in 2 lb. bag from Costco, Sam's
etc - freeze half of it. BIG savings vs. what those little jars and
envelopes cost.

Yahbut, what's the shipping on the one lb bag? I have no problem finding
jars of SAFE or Red Label breadmaker yeast in the local supermarkets.
Asked them several years ago to stock it and they still do. Guess I'm
not the only one in the town that bakes bread.

Frankly, I would rather pay the shipping charge than paying my instate
sales tax that is inching close to 10%. At least the money would be
going to a capitolist shipper than a socialist government.

Side note: In the freezer, yeast lasts a LOT longer than the "use by"
date. We bought two pounds from Sam's Club long before I quit
carrying the membership---call it six years ago. Just used up the
last of it.

And that jogged a memory: My first attempt at making yeast rolls. I
was around 12, my older sister was in Home Ec and got those Betty
Crocker pamphlets on making rolls, bread, piecrust, etc. (Anyone else
remember those?)

So I decided to make cloverleaf rolls. Used the cake of yeast that
was in the fridge. So what if the cake had been there for a year and
a half?... :-(

It was a very tasty batch of unleavened bread...

And if no Costco and you don't care for walmart the food service stores
have the large bags of yeast at really reasonable prices. I have been
buying those big bags forever. I usually split it in half and give half
to a family member and put the other half in a jar and keep it in the
fridge.

Use instant yeast. Buy it at costco in 500 gm bags, freeze it and use as
necessary. Allows all the flexibility you need; use less for a starter or a
biga, a big more for emergency pizza, etc. You don't have to waste one of
those little packages. It freezes very well. Mine has been in the freezer
for a year and works exactly as when purchased. Don't worry about "so called
bread machine yeast".
