I had never gone to a White Castle but kept hearing people rave about them so I decided to go to the last White Castle in Pittsburgh. The inside was mostly blue and white. Not pale blue but medium blue. The blue color made me sick to my stomach so that I couldn't eat the food. I can't eat in the presence of that much blue. My mother used to have those plates with the deep blue design on them (delft or something) - anyway, I really hated eating off them. Especially things like spaghetti. And my aunt had a set of melamine plates, one of which was a light blue. Same thing I couldn't eat off that plate. I always made sure I got the dark green on! Once I thought it would be funny to make a cake in weird colors so I make a yellow cake and dyed one layer green and one blue and iced it with purple icing. It made me sick to look at it! Luckily my great aunt Emma did dot have a problem with weird food colors and ate it. It's a weird phenomenon. Anyone else have a problem with colors and food? Now, I can eat a blue lollipop and blue hard candies or jelly beans and that doesn't bother me. I can drink out of a blue glass and that doesn't bother me. But put me in a blue room or put my food on a blue plate and gag! Kate > > If only there were other neat places to visit and things to do while there or > along the way, I wouldn't mind the trip. Same > menu, etc. You've got to be kidding. Hardees is nothing like Carl's Jr. At least not the Carl's Jr. I remember from 30 years ago. I went to a Hardees once and it was horrid. I'll never make that mistake again. > About 75 miles from here. Remember the Thickburger commercial, starring the > Paris Hilton bimbo? No. And I would never go to any restaurant, nor buy any product, that used Paris Hilton in their commercials/ads. :-) > In L.A., a Carl Jr. was on my corner. It stunk up the neighborhood. Well, it must have been an atypical one. The ones I went to back in the old days were very clean and nice. > I tried their Western bacon cheeseburger. I couldn't finish it. The "bbq" > sauce tasted like medicine! > I could never bring myself to try anything of theirs again. How long ago was this? 30-35 years ago their food was pretty good. But then they changed their menu to things I didn't care for so I stopped going. It's possible they have gone downhill over the years. Many places have. I remember when Arby's had *real* roast beef, not some "beef loaf" thingy made out of scraps of beef pressed together. But the was close to 40 years ago. I quit going to Arby's after that. And KFC ain't what it used to be. > I didn't like JitB tacos either, deep fried crud! > > Then Del Taco... the world's worst excuse for Mexican food. Imho. Don't remember ever going there but I think they were somewhat like Taco Bell > Tapping fingers... what's fast food in my town?... > > Wendys I like their bacon cheeseburger and that's about it. > McD (next to Wendys) I only go there for their sausage biscuit with egg for breakfast. And I hate them (and should boycott them) for making everyone try to make fries like theirs. I want the old fashioned fat fries that we used to eat before McDonalds got everyone wanting skinny fries. I *hate* those things. And McDonalds are the worst of the worst!!!! They taste like cardboard. I never understood why so many people *love* McDonalds fries. > Quizznos Okay, but I don't go there anymore since they changed the beverages they offer. They don't have anything I want to drink. Same reason I quit going to Eat 'n Park about 4-5 years ago. They switched from coke to pepsi (blecch!) so I won't go there anymore. The world is going to hell in a handbasket. > Burger King burned down twice and left town Used to go once in a while for their fish sandwich but haven't been in years. > Subway lasted about 3 months. We had an Olive Garden open up recently in Honolulu. This is a big event! We've been seeing those commercials for at least a hundred years. The Hawaiians are hungry for those foods we see on TV commercials. I have been to the Olive Garden in CA. Mostly, I don't care for that pasta stuff. The wife and kids find it exciting. Ha ha, that's just so weird. The big news is that a Wendy's is being built in Kailua. That's just 6 miles away! Now that's some food I can eat. Truly, this will be a paradise! We still don't have a Sonic. That's a real outrage. |

At one point in time, there was a Sonic and a Checkers right next to each other a couple of miles from here. It was like a Hellmouth. Both are gone now. Wendy's isn't very good either. I'd pick BK or McD's every time over Wendy's. What Honolulu *does have* is Popeyes. Spicy bone-in chicken, red beans and rice, and Cajun gravy, plus they have good biscuits. There is a Fuddrucker's about 10 miles from me. Their burgers are pricey, but great. I get emails with discount offers, and after Covid is mostly gone, I think I'll start going there again. It's a put your own fixins on your burger place. They also have great milkshakes. --Bryan |

We went to the "saucer" - shaped Naugles, don't remember the exact location.. After a night of hard partying we'd go through the drive - thru and get loads of stuff for an early AM breakfast...on a hot summer morning we'd sit on my friend's terrace in Soulard and watch the sun rise through the humid mist... Soulard then had an old - fashioned dive ***/drag bar (the Front Page, maybe?), it was like stepping back in time to the 30's or so...it was hilarious to watch the hillbilly drag performers...fun times! Also went down to the Soulard Mardi Gras a few times...SERIOUS partying...!!! -- Best Greg |
