Our KA 4.5 qt is about 20 years old; it's been good but it's a bit
small for some of what we do. I thought about a new 6 qt but there have been several comments on this group about how the new KA are just crap. So... if not a KA, what stand mixer? Viking? DeLonghi? Cuisinart? Anyone out there who has working knowledge of these other brands? Only looking at the 'planetary' style mixers that use a single beater, not the two-beater models. Best -- Terry |

Ring them up and ask to make sure. I saw it on TV. Best, Andy |

Can kill the thing it just goes and goes often above 40c heat we use it not in the kitchen but for mixing stock feed supplements. I had never heard or seen the brand before but built like a tank They are commercial obviously but you might sniff out easily over there it has a sticker MOFFAT WINSTON salem NC USA they may assist you perhaps ? these things are TOUGH and I thought were actually made in Oz but it appears not because of that sticker ? |

The N-50 is built like a tank, like the old Hobart built Kitchenaids. It will outlast you and several generations of your offspring, it might even outlast cockroaches after a nuclear war. |

Most folks do care about paying ten times more. > The N-50 is built like a tank, True. > like the old Hobart built Kitchenaids. Not true. The N 50 is built nothing like the old KA. And the N 50 only has a 5 quart capacity, not what the OP is looking for... of course we've no idea what he's looking for (I seriously doubt he knows himself), he hasn't indicated what capacity or what he intends to mix with it... 999 times out of of 1000 the 4.5 quart capacity will be far more than enough volume. If the old 4.5 quart KA isn't broken don't fix it. And how often does one really need to mix up a larger batch of anything... on those few occasions do what the professionals do, mix up a second batch in the same machine.... if your machine can only knead enough dough for two loaves but your oven can only bake two loaves then it's smarter to stagger the second batch so while the first batch is baking there's time to make up the second two loaves and time for them to rise so that when the first two come out the second two are tready to bake. That's how it's done by professionals... rather than buying a lot of expensive over-engineered equipment they invest in a clock... and while waiting they don't just stand around with a finger up their ass, they prepare something else, there's always something needs doing in a kitchen, even in a home kitchen... while yer waiting clean up! |

Of course it is, they were made by the same company, back before the Kitchenaid division was spun off. They are not exactly the same design of course, but the point was the quality / durability. > > And the N 50 only has a 5 quart capacity, not what the OP is looking for... > of course we've no idea what he's looking for (I seriously doubt he knows > himself), he hasn't indicated what capacity or what he intends to mix with > it... 999 times out of of 1000 the 4.5 quart capacity will be far more than > enough volume. If the old 4.5 quart KA isn't broken don't fix it. 5qt is slightly larger, and most of the time when someone complains that the mixer isn't "big enough" in a residential context, they really mean it bogs down, and they think a bigger bowl = more power. The 5qt N-50 will mix rings around any of the current Kitchenaid crop. > > And how often does one really need to mix up a larger batch of anything... > on those few occasions do what the professionals do, mix up a second batch > in the same machine.... Yes, but an N-50 is an heirloom mixer that will still be going strong in 2109... |

They look just like scaled-up, taller Kitchenaids, even if they don't come in all the colors (and more) of the rainbow like current Kitchenaids!. -- James Silverton Potomac, Maryland Email, with obvious alterations: not.jim.silverton.at.verizon.not |
