Okay, the tomatoes can go in the endive salad.

The maters turned out to be much worse than they looked and smelled in
the package. I ended up with lots of odd-shaped pieces, so roasted
those in a slow oven til they condensed and shrank. They're somewhere
between broiled and sun-dried in texture now, and wonderfully full of
flavor.

I hate it when they turn the nasty bits of the veggies to the bottom
of the package so you don't know just how lousy they really are. I
don't mind buying stuff that needs a little paring of the bad spots,
but when it's three quarters of the darned plant, that's cheating.

I agree. We have a store here that has a "2nd" shelf and I often get
really great stuff for next to nothing. But I have bought seconds
elsewhere that weren't even worth the miniscule price I paid. But
even with the regular produce it's often packaged up and not loose
and the stuff on the bottom is not that great. That's even worse!
