Hi George,

I know someday I'm gonna have to pay my dues and try grits! Then, given the
odds (?), I'll probably cry away the rest of my life for missing them all
this time!

Well, I don't eat breakfast during the week on work days,
but this weekend I'm planning something I haven't made in
ages - fried mush! I even went out and bought some cornmeal
as I was out. I have some TJ's maple syrup. I'll fry up some
bacon and fry the mush in the bacon fat. Yum. Can't wait.

Kate,

hey! Hey!! HEY!!!

Breakfast is fuel for the day, Mon.-Fri.!!!

Skipping breakfast just increases your lunch appetite. Usually junk food
crapola..

And a full breakfast, especially on days off (Saturday, let's say), when
you get to sit in a La-Z-Boy all day watching NCAA Pitt Panthers vs.
Villanova Wildcats, etc., is also a bad habit! I'm however, in denial. I'll
probably do something stupid like order a large pepperoni/sausage pizza
topped with cheesesteak fillings with French fries in the Primanti Bros.
famous traditional style smooshed in somehow.

Good luck!

Best,

Andy

Lynn in Fargo,

I've heard about not mixing grapefruit juice with high BP meds but
nothing's ever happened combining the two... to me.

I know... birds (meds) of a different feather.

I am surprised that the supermarket cold shelf of juices only sell chilled
cartons of ruby red grapefruit juice. I have to buy the Ocean Spray
bottles, next to the V8 juices.

I sure like grapefruit and grapefruit juice but I cannot eat those
things due to my BP and cholesterol meds.

dsi1,

I was told not to drink grapefruit juice and wash down my one-a-day BP med
(Diovan), so I don't do that.

I have a home BP test kit that I usually run a test with whenever I step
into the kitchen and remember to test. It also connects to the computer and
downloads readings and charts results. Nothing has been very far out of
range in years.

I'm pretty anal about keeping tabs on my condition! BP, diabetes,
diet/nutrition, weight, etc.

Best,

Andy

Om,

I have not but I will look next time. As long as it's not overloaded with
sugar or "stuff" I'll try some.

I know someone who nearly died from outrageously high levels of
Verapamil (sp?) in his bloodstream. In the final analysis, his doctor
surmised that it might have been at least partly caused by large
amounts of grapefruit juice. Seems the hotel he was staying at had
free fresh squeezed grapefruit juice on their breakfast buffet.

Hmmm. Yesterday. A bacon and cheese quesadilla-type thing. I
was uninspired. I also discovered that this bacon, from WF, was
cured. :-(

I don't really pay much attention to all of that. I do have a quarterly
blood analysis for A1c and a whole bunch of other stuff I don't
understand. I have been doing pretty good so I don't feel a pressing
need for much monitoring.

The idea of telemetric monitoring of vital signs at home is a good one.
It seems to useful to be able to do this in a non-hospital environment.
My wife had such a device when she was pregnant - it recorded her
contractions that occurred during the day and we uploaded the data to
some place in Texas once a day using one of those old fashioned modem
that you connect to your phone handset. My guess is that one day we'll
all be wired and monitored.

Well, I don't want to get up even 1 second before absolutely
necessary to wash face, brush, teeth, comb hair, and throw
on cloths, feed cats, rush out the door, drive to work and
arrive 1/2 hour late. Also, it save money - one less meal for
which I need to purchase food. And if I don't eat breakfast
I don't get hungry for lunch. If I do eat breakfast that early
then I'm hungry by noon and want lunch.

In my case it does not increase my lunch appetite. I also skip
lunch most of the time unless there is something special going
on and a free lunch is being provided by the department or I want
to go out to lunch with a friend. That is very rare. So, not
eating lunch also saves me money as it is yet another meal for
which I do not have to purchase food.

Bad habits are my favorite habits. On weekends I generally eat
just 2 meals, depending on how early I eat breakfast. If I eat
breakfast really early - 8am or so - I tend to get hungry and
have something at lunch time. Otherwise I just have a late
breakfast or brunch and dinner.
