Rats!

I thought for sure I'd win another tin foil hat! Dammit!!!

I've been invited (waved in) to the empty express lane (mindfully aware that
I had too many things) by the cashier. Probably a social thing. Better than
standing there talking to yourself like a fidiot!?!

Waving to Cathy!
And hello to 2D Jack, the BUM!!! Time to 3D up those charts???

Cathy,

That takes me by surprise when it happens. It sure is a welcome change of
pace! Almost feels like a supermarket "reward" of some sort.

Best,

I don't like it. I did it twice. As soon as the checker started,
somebody with a couple of items showed up, and gave me THE LOOK. The
cashier always explained, but life is too short for that. I've been
waved over a couple more times, but I just say "thanks, but I'd rather
wait".

I've had this happen to me too. A casher invited me to her empty lane, a
guy came up behind me, saw that I had gone over the limit and got all
****ed and dropped all his crap and left in a huff. That's pretty funny.

Well, since I started it, the answer is no. I would not try and
sneak into an express line with 11 items.

And if somebody I was with tried to do that, I would find the sudden
urge to go to the bathroom and wait for them outside.

I have a reputation to uphold, ya know.

Perhaps now is the time to mention that "10 items" is a pretty arbitrary
limit. Our local store used to have two lanes for "9 or less" and two
for "15 or less". Since sometimes they only had one express lane open,
it got too hard to manage, and they now have four "15 or less" lanes.
You wouldn't have to do a whole lot of sneaking there with 11 items.

Funny but I had a 30+ item shopping cart and wheeled it to one of four of
the self-checkout lane.

I had plenty of bags to pack but not enough room to place all the bags.

When I managed to get all my items bagged and placed around, (on, above and
below) with some machine warnings about "please place your item in the
bagging-area, (I guess it counts a product's known weight?).

After all was said and done, the attendant who stand's there and doesn't
budge unless there's a problem (BORING JOB!!!) walked up to me as I was
walking my cart past her, and said to me, "the self-check-out area is more
for small express checkout items, but YOU did great!!! We shared grins.

Funny thing is... at the same ACME supermarket, during the early (??? am--
7am) shopping hours, there are no cashiers AT ALL, so you're forced to self-
check-out.

They just upped the fine for that here in Texas...

I'm thinking about asking the CPAAA director if I can keep a ticket book
and write for those. It's a civil, not a criminal offense.

Last spring, I took our local CPA course (Citizens Police Academy) and
joined the Alumni Association when I was done.

Twice per year (Black Friday weekend and Tax Free weekend) we volunteer
with the local PD to help with parking enforcement at the outlet mall.

I get to write parking tickets for those that park in Handicap spots and
fire lanes. :-)

It's fun.

Other things we do are mostly fund raising for the PD to purchase items
that the city can't or won't, and the PD feels they need (like a bunch
of digital cameras for evidence gathering and a fleet of police bicycles
for city and outlet mall patrol were more recent purchases) and
community service stuff. The outlet mall vendors also purchased a few
Segways!

I like it. :-)

Blue Santa project was especially rewarding.

Andy, if you are interested, google and see if your city has a CPA
course. Many do. And they are usually free.

Rather, I should re-take the CPR/Heimlich class at the local hospital.

Ok, but you don't know what you are missing... :-)

Part of the class, we got to drive a police Crown Victoria around an
obstacle course, go out to the police range and shoot their toys, watch
a K-9 demo, watch a SWAT demo, sit on on one night of dispatch/911
station calls and ride patrol with one of the night shift cops.

It's cool stuff and you get to know your local law enforcement people.

Cops are good people. Really!

And since I joined the Alumni Association, I've gotten more involved
with local community service so am learning even more stuff. It's cool.

I already know CPR and stuff. Boring.
