Didn't do the recipe survey Bobo Bonobo (a.k.a Bryan) mentioned in
another thread (because it's already been done), but when I saw one of
his other threads I thought this was something we haven't had before.
So thanks, Bryan.

I used to think that we just didn't eat carnivores. Too inefficient,
or whatever. But then I remembered that fish mostly eat other fish.
So do seal and bear.

And if the factory farms are feeding ground up cow and chicken back to
the cows and chickens, I guesss all bets are off.

Pigs, bear (not that seal or bear are staples around here) may prefer
roots and berries, but I think will eat whatever they can get.

So much for big theories. I don't trust what a dog might eat. If
someone prepared a farm-raised food-dog, I'd have to try it, but
wouldn't be very enthusiastic.

I don't really know if eating dog is illegal but I do remember an
Indian restaurant in Oxford, England that was closed down for serving
cat. That might have been for fraud perhaps.

Cathy the survey is a teeny bit flawed .
1 It asks if any one has eaten dog meat

however it does not appear to allow a correct answer to where dog meat
is legal . I.E. Is where you *live* eating dog is legal illegal

How can one accurately answer if while away (not where you live)
one ate dog (knowingly or unknowingly) then returned home where it is
illegal to eat .

Perhaps add another question (if the applet allows)
where did you eat dog ? Where you live
another country

Type thing
Cheers

BTW it is not all that flash taste wise (imo)

Given my intense disdain for dogs, if there were a good restaurant near
me that served it, I would patronize them at least weekly. Legality is
of no concern to me, I do not let your government dictate the foods I
can eat.

I had dog meat taquitos in Mexico on many visits.

It was claimed but never revealed to be true.

It was delicious, no matter!!!

My ex-boss would tell me of a Chinese restaurant in NY that was closed
down for serving cat in the pressed duck dish. Pressed duck was his
favorite dish at the restaurant which he and his friend would order
whenever they ate there. The guy likes to tell stories so maybe this
story is not true. Is cat an acceptable substitute for duck in pressed
duck? :-)

I seriously doubt that Chinese Americans would serve cat as a duck
sub. It would not be practical. Those of us who love Chinese takeout
duck would notice, and they'd get closed down. They aren't stupid,
and don't assume that their customers are stupid. In NYC, customers
are probably even more savvy about ethnic foods than they are in the
U.S. Midwest. Methinks that your "guy" is a liar.

Bit puzzled about the 'your government' thing. How could my government
dictate what you could or could not eat? You don't live here. Or did
you mean 'our government'? Nevermind.

However, it's not something I'd want to try myself, regardless. Same
goes for horse meat, and Balut (and a few other things). Oh well, each
to their own.

Unfortunately the surveys are not set up to add another question once
they've been 'activated'. I'd have to do a re-run and we'd have to
start all over again. Sorry.

It's "your government" for those who accept it. For me, I'm sovereign, I
have never pledged any allegiance to, nor ceded any sovereignty to "your
government", I only interact with it.

I'm always interested in trying new things. Granted some seem not so
appealing, like Balut, but I'd still try it at least once. Honestly I
don't see much difference between cow, horse, dog, lamb, etc.

Is this the beginning of a flame war on the utility of the National
