I also hate raw celery, and was once served boiled fennel bulbs in Italy, which was disgusting (YMMV). Never had boiled okra, sounds yucky. HH |

Serve with a nice rib eye steak. Sweet Potatoes, and/or Yams. I don't care if they're two different things and people always mix them up. Mom says that even as a baby i'd spit them out. Every year, round X-giving time, i mention that i don't like them, and someone always says "oh, because you haven't had them the way -I- make them!! Nobody knows the RIGHT WAY. I know the right way to do them, and you will love them I promise!". And every year, I try them to be fair. And every year I discover that everyone prepares them the same way and I still don't like them. I haven't had okra, and i didn't like lima beans as a kid. I've been meaning to try lima beans again, as I might like them now. -J |

I like Okra in soups, and I like it dredged in cornmeal and fried.
Don't think I'd like it boiled. |

I used to like liver and kidneys but there are some people who are put off by the appearance as I am with snails. I've tried them and the taste of several recipes is actually pretty good. -- James Silverton Potomac, Maryland Email, with obvious alterations: not.jim.silverton.at.verizon.not |

But I suspect they were referring to sour cream or buttermilk. Personally, I like to make my own fat free Ranch. I get a packet of the powdered Hidden Valley Ranch dressing mix and add that to TWO pints of fat free sour cream. Makes a great dip or dressing. The instructions say to just add 16 oz. but I double that as it makes for a MUCH less salty dip/dressing and it's plenty flavorful. I've gotten good reviews on that when I've taken it to potlucks as a veggie dip. -- Peace! Om Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass. It's about learning to dance in the rain. -- Anon. |

Calling it "soured milk" is a little simplistic, but yes, that's what it is. After the fat is removed to make butter, the remaining buttermilk is cultured with bacteria, which makes it "sour" (lactic acid): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buttermilk -- Dan Abel Petaluma, California USA |
