Screw that idea. Buy her a diamond instead.

She wouldn't want a diamond. I'm not kidding. I was going to make
her lobster, but she said that the pancake joint looked even better.

Dinner tonight is just burgers cooked over hickory, and Lay's potato
chips with a dip made from cream cheese, pressed garlic, half&half,
and a pinch of salt.

I'll second that idea!

I never worry about diets. The only carrots that
interest me are the number of carats in a diamond.

A woman after my own heart. Based on conversations with friends and
co-workers, my husband offered to replace the original diamond in my
wedding ring with something larger and flashier for our 20th anniversary.

I liked my ring just fine, thankyouverymuch. "Hearts On Fire" diamond,
oh FFS... He knew me better than that but got paranoid after talking to
his buddies. Instead, we took the kids with us to Jamaica for 10 days.

It'll be 25 years this May and no regrets. And no big, stupid rocks,
either.

I guess you don't want flowers on occasions either.

They're not stupid... then by your accounting all celebratory ritual is
stupid... why bother with a wedding celebration at all, just find a justice
of the peace. And why spend money on a wedding cake, share a Dunkin Donut.
Those who say an engagement ring is stupid are the cheap *******s. Any guy
whose intended says they don't want any stupid rock had better run as fast
as they can, because they will be considered stupid and useless too... at
best it will be a business arrangement where the gal will be the CEO and the
guy will be relegated to the mailroom... and there sure won't be any
romance.

It's all relative... folks should buy what they can afford and what suits...
even if you can afford it there's no point to a $15,000 rock when your
wardrobe is Chez Walmart... but just because one can't afford the Hope
diamond that's no rationale to buy nothing. And anyway, according to my
life long jeweler friend diamonds are a very poor monetary investment, but
so is a wedding party, as are roses on Valentine's Day... significant tokens
of ones intentions are always good investments, they're indicative of future
quality of life.
