Default How's TJ's Mayo?

We've been buying Kraft Mayo for ages but they've decided to quietly
rework their recipe (additional egg, sugar & now made with mustard
oil). The new stuff is virtually tasteless and extremely runny -
absolutely inedible IMO - and we're looking for a new mayo.

I hit TJ's regularly and am wondering how their mayo stacks up.
Anybody who's tried it want to weigh in?

Fine Cooking reviews many products including mayo. Kraft Mayo
continues to be the first choice of any brand name product, including
Duke Mayo.

Never heard of Duke Mayo.

TJ's discontinued is low-fat mayo, which I like, and I have not tried
the full fat version but I would say it would be worth trying.

I think Fine Cooking did their mayo rating in 2006, well before the
recipe change. I'd be stunned if the panel tasted the slop Kraft is
passing off as "Real Mayonnaise" today. It's so runny, flat and
tasteless you'd think it was a brand X product from the expired pull
date bargain bin - it's wet and white, but that's about it...so
wretched that I just dumped a near full jar. It ruined a perfectly
nice chicken salad yesterday & did nothing to enhance a roast beef
sandwich today.

Duke isn't available in Oregon, there's always Best Foods (assuming
this other mayo giant hasn't messed with their product too), but I'm
still curious about Trader Joes ...

Look at the ingredients. If the base contains anything other that egg
YOLKS, oil and lemon, it's garbage. Lots of things are OK to flavor,
mustard, etc. Egg white and vinegar have no place in real mayo. That
rules out Kraft and Best.

Would you believe they are making their own...or just slapping a label
on a jar?

Ever since switching to Hellman's low fat I won't change from that. I guess
I would if they changed it and it sucked, but so far it's the best mayo for
me.

TJ's Organic Mayonnaise has a thick texture and tastes fine but the
flavor isn't appreciably better than other brands I've tried like old
Kraft (don't know about the new Kraft). In any case, it's the default
choice for me now when I feel like mayo because at least it looks to
be made with wholesome ingredients and doesn't contain sugar and
artificial junks. But I don't use that much mayo (only in sandwiches
and occasional dip for fried foods) so I'm not the best judge.

You are so right about Kraft mayo. I bought a large container at Sam's
Club, it was so thin and runny, I had to throw it out. Mayo should be
nice and thick. I like Hellman's, Blue Plate and my store brand (Food
Club).

No bacon in it. Interesting.

I somehow replied to the wrong post. THIS is interesting, with no
bacon involved.

Nuts and a cherry on banana splits are so last year. From now on it's
bacon bits!

I used to use Hellman's, but switched to Trader Joe's Organic mayo,
and I like it a lot. To me it seems fresher and creamier.

Decided to give it a whirl and picked up a jar of TJ's Organic
Mayonnaise this afternoon. Had it with steamed artichokes tonight -
DH & I both thought it was pretty darned good. Similar in taste to
Best Foods (aka Hellman's), but a little more intense flavor, nice
texture - certainly vastly superior to that wretched Kraft product.

Thanks for the input,
Nancy T
