Judas Iscarrots . . . Prince of Peas & > Carrots . . . Holy Guacamole . . . ;-) > Oh geeze. I hosted a joint "Sweet 16 " party for my daughter and one of her friends at a local trampoline gym. In keeping with the time of the year I made a great big tollhouse sheet cookie and decorated it in a Halloween theme. I made gravestones and crosses out of white chocolate and white KitKat bars, and Hershey bar crypts with the lids broken or pushed aside to reveal Gummy Mummy occupants inside. There was a cauldron of chocolate eyeballs, gummy bugs and spiders, and a white chocolate path lit with 16 candles, with little plastic werewolves, vampires and frankensteins shambling along it. The kids thought it was the coolest cake ever and I suspect every single employee at the gym took a picture with his or her cell phone. I'm not religious, or even superstitious but I have to admit to feeling just the slightest bit flinchy when they took one of the gummy mummies and nailed it to a KitKat bar cross with toothpicks. |

That recipe is for a "cookbook" I wrote for a production of "Nunsense". We didn't like the one available with the script (the nuns sell the book during intermission) so a buddy and I wrote our own. In the script it's called "Baking with the B.V.M." (Blessed Virgin Mary). I was very poor one "winter holiday gifting season" so I resurrected the book as "It's Cooking for Chrissake!" snipped all the stuff from the Nunsense script (copyright) and printed a limited edition of 18 copies for my (broad-minded) friends. I lost the digital copy when my last computer died but I think if I can find a hard copy I'll re-enter it. When I do, I'll share it with rfc . . . as long as you understand it's contraband. I think you'd like the "Host Toastees" and the "Sodom and Gomatzah Ball Soup" or "Parting the Red Sea Scallops" Lynn in Fargo (cabin fever is setting in!) |

My wife is very religious. She likes religious holidays, especially the food part, so she celebrates them all! Both Jewish and Christian, although she throws other stuff in also. Our church always celebrates the Day of the Dead, which I think is some combination of Christian and Pagan. Here's a pictu http://www.flickr.com/photos/ddodd/2...7603657059507/ You can't see the sugar skulls. My wife bought the molds and made the skulls, and the kids decorated them. -- Dan Abel Petaluma, California USA "[Don't] assume that someone is "broken" just because they behave in ways you don't like or don't understand." --Miche |

The sugar skulls and skeletons and chocolate coffins are pretty cool to see. Altars are set up with offerings of food for the spirits. We went into a McDonald's to get my daughter a drink and they had both a traditional altar, with squashes and pumpkins and corn and beans and what not, and they also had a McDonald's altar, presumably to appease the more recently deceased. It's very poignant to see the offerings left in the cemeteries, as well. Families visit the graves of their loved ones with gifts of their favorite food and drink. You might see a tequila bottle leaning against an old man's headstone, and a bottle of milk on a baby's grave. |

I'd like that if you ever have a chance. You must have had a ball thinking up silly recipe titles! How are you doing now? Did you get your feet wet? I hear the worst is yet to come after the Spring thaws. Quick, somebody call in the Dutch! I see you haven't figured out what is making that Ografmorffig (I know what it says) appear after your email address... or did I miss something. Mac is slowly becoming part of the Evil Empire as Linux users increase. Someday Mac users will wipe that smirk off their faces. <g> Not pointed at you or any Mac user here on rfc, but I've visited too many web sites that are totally disdainful of anything PC and don't care how many potential customers they wave away. -- I love cooking with wine.
