It's a monster, but it's good looking. Much, much, much better
looking than the picture.

Does anyone else has a grill built in their gas cooktop? I'm getting
ready to pull out the manual because I'm wondering if I got all the
pieces. I don't understand where the drippings go - I don't see a
*real* drip pan.

Pic please. I want to experience cooktop envy. Doing our taxes is not making

What brand? I have a LP Wolf four burner and an infrared gas
grill. It vaporized all drippings. There isn't a "drip pan".
Usually just a bit of debris remains and burns off on the next usage.

I had one in my last place and come to think of it, I don't think it had a
drip pan.

Just think of how wonderful you'll feel when you get to mail that

Something is wrong with my camera and it turns out that I need special
_$30_ software (CD - nothing is available online) in order to transfer
pictures via usb from phone to computer. After a fairly heated
conversation with customer service last night, I'll buy it today (if
I can't get the store to give it to me for free) and my cell phone
carrier will credit the money to me. The pictures are in my phone
awaiting transfer!

This a Kitchenaid. I know! Who knew they made cooktops? It was
pricey, but in the neighborhood of $1,000 less than Wolf and Viking of
the same configuration/size. Plus it was on sale and shipping (from
Michigan) was free! I have only two small steps, so the delivery guy
brought it inside instead of a curbside drop... another $90 saved. An
added bonus is it doesn't protrude 2 inches from the counter the way a
lot of gas cooktops do, so the only things sticking out will be knobs.

I finally found the drip pan. It's tiny! I guess fat is supposed to
vaporize, as you say, before it hits the pan.

Do you have one of those oblong griddle/grill pans? If so, do you use
it across two burners or do you put it on the grill? I'm thinking the
grill will be more even heat than two burners... better for batches of
pancakes.

TIA

So the fat really did just vaporize and you never had to worry about
cleanup? Did you wire brush the grill to keep it clean or use some
other method? I want mine to be seasoned, not sticky all the time.

What about a wok option. Seems to me I remember when there was a wok
available that sat recessed (kind of like an okd fashioned "deep
well") that would get waaaaaayy hot - like in a Chinese restaurant.
I'd love that! Instant stir fry!
Lynn in Fargo
grew up with an great stove that had a built-in "deep well" like a
slow cooker

My wok option is 16,000 btu, remove the grate, add the ring and put
the wok on it. I think those wok things are stand alone or at least
what I've been aware of was. I wouldn't use it enough to care.

I'll give you a link, but it looks a hundred times better in person
than it does in the picture. I don't know why they have such an ugly
picture up trying to sell merchandise.

Don't worry about "homeclick" it's what you get after you click on a
kitchenaid.com link.

Nice. Wish I had the room for a 48" cooker. You'll love the high powered

It looks like a beauty!! You must be very proud. I bought a Wolf
with the grill, (I knew I would never use a griddle). I have a
griddle that fits perfectly over two burners. Wolf recommends
that you never use any "cooking vessels" on the grill. It is meant
JUST for grilling. Mine sat in the box for three months while the
new house was being built. I couldn't stand waiting to use it. We
couldn't even cook lobsters on the old "glass top" at the condo in
town since the water would never come to a boil in a ten gallon pot.
Now it is a snap and you will find out that also. I do hope you
enjoy the wok....You will feel like a pro after that.

Now...for the hood...what did you choose. The building inspector
gave us a very bad time as to how we vented. He finally approved a
roof mounted exhaust fan at 1200 cfm. Being on the roof, it is almost
silent. Your rangetop is going to put out more heat that you can
imagine. He even started on us about installing a fire extinguisher
inside the hood like at restaurants. I know he was being very
cautious since we live out of town by five miles and live on the top
of a mountain on 10 totally wooded acres. Just like being in the
Smoky Mountains. Fire does scare the bejesus out of me....so I do
have three portable extinguishers handy in the house. The house would
burn to the ground before the fire department could get up here...and
then we wouldn't have sufficient water pressure.

Considering all that we had to endure....I have never had a regret and
I know you will be so happy with your new rangetop. Good luck and
happy creating on that marvelous instrument.

Here is our arrangement.....post pics of yours after completion!!!

Lovely kitchen! Is that two dishwashers by the sink or a DW and a trash
compactor?

Nice photography ... what camera do you use? Me, I'm normally a Canon
person, but my latest piece of equipment is a Sony which I like very,
very much.

Two dishwashers.....and one is always full of dirty or clean dishes!!
never did see the need in a trash compactor. Since we are in septic,
everything is composted without a disposal. I do miss that.

I had a Sony...enjoyed it very much until the "special" battery had to
be replaced. They wanted 145.00 for a new battery and that grated
me.

Now I have a FujiFilm S5000 that uses four AA batteries that can be
purchased anywhere. The rechargables work great especially when
traveling. Don't have to worry about trying to find some odd
battery.

My son...a professional photographer, swears by Canon..but those are
out of my price league.

On my phone, currently a Motorola Z6c as well as my previous LG VX8300 I
moved pics off of it to the computer two ways - for one or two pics I
just sent them to my email since it barely put a dent in my 500/mo out
of network quota, or for larger batches of pictures I'd take the microSD
card out of the phone and put in in the SD adapter and then in the card
reader on the PC for direct transfer. The phones also have bluetooth,
but so far I haven't fiddled with that long enough to figure out how to
transfer that way.

Looks like a nice unit. You're right though, the web pic isn't very
flattering. I think they mostly expect that the contractor / designer
will take the customer to some design center showroom to see it in
person.

I have a decent hood that I don't intend to replace at the moment. It
was purchased with the intent of handling what my cook top can
produce. The good thing I realized tonight is the grill is on the
same side as the strongest exhaust fan. It's a good thing! LOL

Thanks again! It's great to see what other people have done.

I just want to be clear that I am in no way "remodeling" my kitchen!
I'm only "updating" it.

I have a fairly new, decent, hood which I talked about when it was
installed a couple of years ago. I'm not replacing cabinets or
reconfiguring the kitchen (reconfiguring is my dream). I'm just
putting painting the cabinets, putting in granite counters and a new
cook top. Oh, yes... I'm replacing a BIG window and painting the
kitchen - saying again, it's *not* a remodel. No how, no way... it's
just an update. My kitchen is so old the copper hinges are back in
style and I'm actually looking at antiqued copper handles to match
them.

How bad is that?

Ah. Nice.

BTW, did you install it yourself and if so, how easy was it to do?

Must be a disappearing link typed with invisible ink... I've read at least
20 posts in this thread and I haven't seen any stinkn' link to a cooktop...
did see links to someone's kitchen but there was an entire range/stove, no
cooktop. Why not just post the brand with model number, I'll find it
myself.

BUT with that powerful burner, you will, I think, get wok chi. (I
hope I have remembered this correctly.)

This was it.

I'll give you a link, but it looks a hundred times better in person
than it does in the picture. I don't know why they have such an ugly
picture up trying to sell merchandise.

Don't worry about "homeclick" it's what you get after you click on a
kitchenaid.com link.

I snipped the post - wouldn't want to be accused of not snipping.

If you'd bothered to go one post up, you'd have seen it there.

We're not doing it ourselves. For starters, it's heavy. That sucker
is 178 pounds! Just dropping it into the hole will be hard work.
Then you need to hook up the gas and electric. We were going to call
back the plumber who installed the gas line to connect the unit, but
maybe not.

It turns out the people we are buying the granite countertops from are
licensed contractors and have subcontractors who can do whatever we
want, so we're probably going with them. What the heck if their bid
is "right" and we suspect it will be, we'll have them do everything
including adding electrical outlets and replacing a window. They may
end up painting too.

Thanks. I had to buy a $20 card reader to use. It looks and works
just like a thumb drive except it reads memory cards. Just tried it
this morning and it's doing the job. I refuse to send pictures
because my carrier charges per pix and I'm not going to enrich them
that way. I have a bluetooth enabled phone. This is an LG VX 8610.
The kind with an earpiece and holder integrated into it, but no
mention was made of transferring anything via bluetooth technology.
Maybe that's just for music.

I could only take crappy pictures of my already beloved monster. Too
much sunlight... the phone's camera can't handle it. I will post it
in a few minutes.

Here it is. Remember phone cameras don't handle light as well as
regular cameras. I see I have a setting for night/low light pictures
and if I actually studied camera options, I might figure out a setting
for bright light. In the mean time, my picture is as bad as the one
on the web site... but here it is anyway. It's still in the box
awaiting the next step. http://i42.tinypic.com/250jo6h.jpg Those
knobs just aren't photogenic - they look awful in this picture, but
they're big and fabulous. Best of all, they match the knobs on my
oven.

That's one very nice looking cooktop! I like, I like ;D It's going to
work out really well, I bet. Nothing like cooking with gas

Thanks. Seems pricey for just a cooktop but it's difficult to tell from
those pictures. I wonder who actually manufactures it. I have a KitchenAid
clothes dryer but it's really a GE with the KA label... like how Kenmore is
really Whirlpool.

I think this site gives more info and better images:

I had one like that, did SD and MS, but I loaned it out while on a dive
trip and never got it back. My new laptop has an SD slot built in, so I
guess it doesn't matter much.

I pay for 500/mo out-of-network messaging, which is worthwhile even
though I usually use much less. Most of my messaging and calls are
in-network, largely to my mother who I have on my family plan. Unlimited
in-network everything is handy with my mother 1,700 miles away.

I've fiddled a bit with the Bluetooth, and I can get it to pair with my
iPaq and my laptop, but I haven't fiddled enough to get it to transfer
files.

Cell phone cameras aren't competing with dedicated digital cameras, but
they are incredibly handy for quickly documenting stuff.

I wonder why it is "chi" that I thought I remembered? Either I
made it up--or maybe one dialect as vs another????
