Thanks again, Mark, for that link. It's provided much hilarity. Recipes so awful even Andy wouldn't eat them. > > Andy --Bryan, aka Bobo Bonobo http://www.TheBonobos.com |

I'm not speculating here. I've had that stuff when I was a kid. It could have been worse. Families a few steps below on the socioeconomic staircase were doing the weenie water gravy thing, which was essentially, creamed hot dogs. Are you going to post a recipe for creamed bresaola? Oh? Are you asking for human pedigrees now? Want to know my socioeconomic status as a kid? Let's just say I had steak sandwiches in my bag lunch so often I hated them and would trade for sandwiches made with the cheapest tuna.... my mother used albacore - I didn't like her tuna sandwiches either. > >Really though, my memory of that jarred meat is pretty intact, and >nothing good can come of it. > Jarred meat is composed and flattened sh*t. The good chipped beef came in packages and looked like it was sliced from one piece of meat instead of meat scraps that were compressed and sliced. -- I love cooking with wine. My son trades steak sandwiches on crusty sourdough for cafeteria hamburger soft tacos. Makes his dad nuts. I try to put it into economic terms for him. The leftovers the boy traded away cost less than the tacos he got in return. Fact. He gets the tacos he craved, the other boy gets a steak sandwich, the cafeteria contractor gets the profit on the tacos they sold. It's all good, given that I can't follow him to school and stand over him to make sure he eats what i sent. |

She was always given money to buy something from the canteen (we don't have cafeterias at schools here)and craved home made sandwiches. I only ever had money to buy food from the canteen on special occasions so getting the chance to buy it on extra occasions was very tempting for me. In those days the school canteens sold junk food and lollies - not the healthy options they sell today. I don't remember exactly what I used to spend the money on but it wouldn't have been anything my mother would have approved of for lunch on a daily basis :-) The canteen did sell sandwiches but I'm pretty sure I didn't buy those. -- Rhonda Anderson Cranebrook, NSW, Australia Core of my heart, my country!
