Default OT - We're Moving!

By the end of the month, we should be out of the evil clutches of our
slum lord! Found a "cozy" house on a dead end street, wooded lot, dry
basement, includes all appliances (We can finally do laundry!).

We can paint and wallpaper to our preferences, without any prior
approval. They are going to install a handicap toilet. Everything
except the (DRY) basement is on one floor. Much better for Crash and
Ron (now fondly referred to as Humpty Dumpty). There are no dead
animals in the basement at this place, either!

They're putting in a brand new furnace this summer, so our gas and
electric bills (especially since the house is cozy) should be much
better than what they have been.

We have way too much stuff. I think we'll be having a big yard sale.
And we have to go from a king size bed to a full. That's gonna be
tough. The bedrooms, especially, are very cozy. Not sure where our
dressers are gonna go.

I've gotta pack! A week and a half isn't much time. I feel so
liberated!

Carol

Damsel,

Great news!

Too bad about getting shoe-horned into a full-sized bed from a king-sized.

I'd rent public storage before I'd yard sale. That way you don't have the
undue pressure of having to snap-decide what you have to sell so fast. Do a
sale AFTER the move at some point when you're settled in, at your leisure.

Best,

Andy

Good luck with your new home. May it be all you hope for and more,
all to the good.

I don't envy you the packing tho. Or the yard sale. I can never sort
out stuff I don't want.

Good luck with your move, and congrats on finding a place you like.

You can probablly get rid of stuff that doesn't sell at your yard sale
by posting it on Freecycle.

Are you finally going to turn in the scumbag you've been renting from?
How about bunk beds instead of a full/double bed. Uffda, that's going
to be a tough one, Kiddo. Good luck!

No, but this guy has a good reputation. You should see all the work
they're doing to get this place ready for us. The current furnace is
one of those octopus things that takes up most of the basement. We'll
have more storage!

Scumbag has been reported to the police, the city attorney, the city
inspector, and public health. So far.

Do you believe *either* of us could climb into a top bunk? LOL!

Thanks for everyone's good wishes. This is gonna be really cramped,
compared to the spacious place we're living in now (it's enormous).
But everything will WORK!

I think our first load of stuff will go directly to a storage
facility. Then we'll start moving the stuff we'll actually use at the
new place.

I agree with Andy this time. Put ALL the non-essentials in storage and go
thru them at your leisure. That way, there is no question of 'what happened
to the wizgig I really needed......oh, crap, it went out to the yard sale
and now I gotta buy a new one'.

Not to wax ultra-religious on you (I don't want to offend) but iffen it were
me, with all the gloom, despair and agony heaped upon you recently, I would
definitely have the first rule of business after signing the lease and
getting the keys is to have a house blessing (clergy of your choice). Maybe
Father Splash-d'Water would run whatever is bedevilling you back to whence
it came.

Nothing wrong with sprinkling salt around the foundation. I've never
done it, but I'm game. We usually smudge when we move into a new
place, too.

The landlord is what is bedevilling us, and we leave him when we leave
this house!

Carol,

Also, if your kingsize bed in the new place is impeded only by closet
doors, by all means remove the closet doors! Drop some tapestry or bead
drapes in their place!

I'll loan you mine, if you need her.

Good luck on the move.

Absolutely. There's probably an HGTV show on doing just that.

Carol -- for your cats, Might I suggest something that works great for
us? Our utility room, a small separate room, adjoins the kitchen and
then has a door to the garage. We removed the closet door in that room
and the covered litter box sits in the closet quite well (we have one of
those nautilus shaped Boda boxes which is a bit wide). I still have use
of the shelves and the hangar bar. Voila! No litter boxes in rooms that
guests might frequent, and nothing to trip over. Plus, we can just close
the utility room when we want.

Congrats on the move! Bob and I have been very concerned about you and
Crash.

It's impeded by the proximity of the walls to each other. I don't
think the bed would fit in there, even if it was the only thing in the
room, and we took the door off. Crash is already complaining about
having to sleep close to me. LOL!

How about queen size instead of full? Those few inches do help a lot.

The property manager thought a queen size would fit, but we can get a
full size bed free. We'd have to go out and buy a queen size.
Something to shoot for, though!

Hooray! You'll have to give me your new address. Once I'm through with
this estate stuff I can send you those shakers that match your cannisters.
Right now I'm dealing with tax issues.

Congrats! Sounds like an excellent change.

Having laundry facilities at your disposal whenever you need them is
really a great thing. I remember loving that when we bought our first
house - I felt so spoiled!

Good luck,
Kris

In our tradition we always bring bread, salt and honey or sugar into a
new home. Bread so that you will be sustained, salt so that you will
prosper and honey or sugar so that your life will be sweet.

Congratulations! I'd say don't over do but with such a short time to move I
know that would be stupid.

Carol, I"m so happy for you! I don't know how you got through the past
several months of winter. The place you're in right now sounded like a
deathtrap.

Good for you and yours! The key to your "stuff" - if you haven't used
it in two years, get rid of it. If you aren't sure, drag it along,
well-labeled, and leave it in cartons, or put it in storage to sort
later.

Best of luck in your new digs.
