It's pretty much impossible to make split pea soup look appealing. It
will always look like something you got out of a stagnant pond. But
it tastes good!

It certainly is ... even with the pepperoni! I wouldn't have believed it
if I hadn't tried it myself.

Damsel's Spicy Split Pea Soup w/Pepperoni is the only way we serve it
around here now (although I do have a ton of ham to use up).

Not that it's any of your business, but in a word, yes. We can more than
afford any needed repairs. We also purchsed a service contract on the
heating and cooling unit. Today we are expecting 102° by mid-day. We have
the same friends now that we had then, and a few more.

Exactly what is your problem, Greg? I've never done anything to you to
warrant your behavior. Your actions don't rile me, Greg. They're childish
and silly, and except for your couple of cohorts here, everyone else feels
the same way.

Prove that you're not really the loser you appear to be and act like an

Crash likes big chunks of veggies and meat in his soups and stews. It
*is* better with pepperoni, but ham will do in a pinch.

I'm making Potato Leek Soup tonight.

I love sprit pea soop, as whats-his-name (Buddy ____) used to

use a hambone in it?

I don't like smooth soups. I want to be able to identify individual
peas (I don't name them or anything).

We usually make it with pepperoni, but we had ham on hand, so I just
cut some into cubes and tossed it in with the rest of the stuff. I do
like using the ham bone for soups. I know that pepperoni sounds
weird, but it's delicious in this particular soup.

We have a bag of that multi-bean mix, and I'll probably use the bone
when I make that.

Last time I made it, I used ham stock. I save the skin and the bones
then slice the skin (and remaining meat) into small chunks. ;-d
Also add a little extra chunky onion.

I have yet to try that.

Yet another carby thing to think about a year or so from now. <g>

#45 down, #60 to go! <sigh>

But my poor old joints are thanking me for it...

Dr. Perry released me from physical therapy this morning, satisfied with
the lower body strength gains I've made. He's been a wonderful teacher!

Carol, ever made a bacon stock? I've done that a couple of times using
those boxes of bacon ends and pieces. Takes a major overnight defatting
prior to using it but it's worth it.

I used it to make lentils. It was fabulous.

I am eating a lot of veggies and love exploring the produce section at

I love my Hamilton Beach electric grill. :-)

Dr. Perry taught me the value of high rep body weight only exercises.
They have done a lot of good. Things like 5 sets of 20 standing lunges
per day, altho' he told me to go to every other day on those this
morning.

Count me in on this too. I'm disappointed that the more expensive
the restaurant, the more likely a soup is to be a smoothened glop.

Yup. All of my soups are chunky. I wouldn't eat them if they

Grilled meat and steamed green veggies at home. At work, green salads
and celery mostly. Sometimes I'll take some chopped chicken or other
meat to put in the salads at work. Canned tuna/tuna salad is good too
and makes a good celery dip. :-)

Sounds yummy! I've taken to grilling zucchini lately. Slice it
lengthwise in half and sprinkle with lemon pepper, dill weed and sesame
seeds and grill for about 3 minutes.

I also like zuke's raw, dipped in a low fat dressing.

No. I'm totally avoiding starch at the moment.

Bacon ends and pieces come in large boxes (3lbs iirc, it's been awhile)
so I just use the usual mirpoix with that meat in the pressure cooker.
Strain off the solids and let the stock refrigerate overnight for
defatting. I shred the meat while it's still warm and save that to add
back to the dish.

This is one time I actually rinse the meat under hot water to get most
of the rest of the grease off.

Hm, ok, try taking a look at Jump Stretch resistance bands.
I'm using those a lot right now per Dr. Perry's recommendations, (he
demo'd and taught me how to use them in some ways in his office, I
always left my appointments with him sweating <g>) and they are low
impact too like swimming is. In fact, probably more so.

I'm a bit peckish myself at the moment. :-) I need to take care of the
cats first and wash dishes. Dad still has sausage and eggs left in the
'frige and seems to be enjoying it, so I won't have to cook for him
today.

I have some leftover steak in the 'frige for me from yesterday (dad
won't eat beef) so I'll baste a couple of eggs to go with that and add
some baby spinach for the green stuff, and call that "brunch".

I need to get bananas for dad tomorrow so I'll pick up some more small
tatuma squashes in the morning for tomorrow.

I'm developing a hankerin' for artichokes at the moment so might get a
couple for this weekend.
