They require daily attention like any other plants. But trouble they are
not. You just put a seedling in the foam sleeve then load it up with
potting soil and start watering. You can choose an ideal spot to hang them
from. The roof works for me because it shades the plants during the hottest
part of the day. No snails is a big plus, too.

Snort! There's one in every crowd! You all are very lucky my husband
doesn't post to this group. He is an expert one-liner, play on words
person. No matter how I prepare and think about it, he always gets me with
a zinger. You're right about the determinate producing generally at the
same time. It isn't as though you get up one morning and bingo, they are
all there and all ripe. The season is more like green beans, you get
tomatoes for several, maybe more weeks. If you are going to grow
indeterminate in this kind of container, I would suggest pruning the plant
as it grows, otherwise you can have a tremendous weight and also the water
consumption will keep you standing on guard to keep it watered sufficiently.
Maybe prune out the leader as it gets to the length you want and then keep
track of the side shoots. The container may keep an indeterminate in check
growth wise, simply because of root space and food in the soil -- I don't
know. Check here to see what I mean. It's the pics entitled October
tomatoes. All tomatoes are indeterminate. Check out the cherry tomato
plant.

Nah -- I'd remember if I'd seen a guard like that around here. I think
they've got a couple larger ones like that downtown behind a tall fence 'o}
Mine does cat, squirrel and raccoon duty.

Idaho, right outside the desert at about 3300 feet. Hotter than blazes and
dry in the summer. Soaker hoses and mulch are what I use. It gets hot
enough during the summer that it is often difficult to avoid blossom drop.

I'm at 82 feet above sea level here. It's hotter than hell right now and
dry as a bone. I have a determinate and an indeterminate plant, both in
pots, both get water every day.

Summer lasts a LOONG time here. I may have to move the eternally growing
one closer to the house and let it climb over.
Muhdear says that they'll root to the ground in the pots I have them in if I
don't move them. Perhaps I should get it close now...

I'll take pictures. I'm pretty sure we're safe from frost at this point.

Let me know how you do. Due to your climate, you will have totally
different issues than I do. I do find that when I grow anything in pots
here that I have to shelter the pots (container) from the direct sunlight to
keep the soil cooler. I have to avoid dark colored pots as well. I try to
group pots together in a small pot garden to keep the pot soil cooler,
otherwise I get tremendous afternoon wilt.

The other big factor is that determinate tend to produce their fruit all
at once, and then they are done. That's great for canning, but not if
you want a few each week for salads and sandwiches. Indeterminate not
only keep growing, but they keep setting fruit until frost or you dig
them up.
