Default Back from NZ and OZ and OB food

We are back from nearly a month's stay in the lands down
under.
I can thoroughly recommend:

Our remarkable guide
Baramundi (fish)
NZ lamb
Pavlova
Feijoa (fruit)
Passionfruit
Kumara (yummy sweet potato)
jet boating
all of NZ scenery and its wonderful, hospitable people
Bay of Islands, NZ
Bondi Beach (Au)
Manly Beach (Au)
Great Barrier Reef snorkeling
Monteith beer
NZ sauvignon blanc wine

and much more that I can't remember through the jet-lagged haze.
Altho we don't always agree on much, we agree was the best
trip we have ever had.

For a minute there I thought that you'd eaten the guide! Any recipes
for guide?

Glad to hear that it was a good trip and welcome back.

Welcome back, Gloria. Sorry I didn't get back to you before you left,
but we ended up spending more time on our road trip around the
mid-to-lower North Island than we'd envisaged and didn't get back
until after you'd left.

We drove down from Northland via Orewa, Cambridge, then Taupo, Levin,
and a neat little place (Sandcastle Motel) on Kapati Coast

before spending four days in Wellington. We'd originally planned a
three day stay, but wanted a better look around - especially the
Impressionists' Exhibition at Te Papa. We wish Wellington was closer
to us because we like it far more than Auckland.

We took an even slower journey back north. Spent several days staying
in Oakura in north Taranaki near New Plymouth. It was spectacular and,
except for some rain the morning we left Wellington, the weather was
perfect and we had clear views of all of the magnificent volcanic
mountains.

Except for the Museum Hotel in Wellington, our only extravagances were
food and wine and we lucked out all the way along the line. We don't
expect hotel restaurants to be anything special, so the Hippopotamus
restaurant was a huge surprise. The food/service/views were exquisite.

http://www.museumhotel.co.nz/

But even the roadside cafes and local restaurants we encountered were
exceptionally good. The only place where we had a problem was a
rundown little West Coast village called Opunake. The Chinese takeaway
that was recommended by the motel was so grubby looking that we ended
up eating beans on toast in our room rather than chance it. But
getting stuck in Opunake is another story and at least we had a nice
un-oaked NZ Chardonnay to wash it down.

So ... what did you think of our cheeses? You didn't mention any in
your list!!!

Ezzactly. He sure was yummy looking, and a real sweetheart,
too.
If I were 10 years younger and he were 10 years older and I
wasn't
married...oh, hell, never mind.

The devil's in the details. Always.

No name for it, it's prescribed for me by my health practitioner. No
alcohol, no sugar, no grains, no fruit, no dairy, nothing fermented. After
1 month, I start adding things back - fruit comes first (YAY!!).

I'm going to cheat this w/e, but very very mildly.

If you want more info, email me privately and I'll respond. You have my
email addy, I believe....
