I am a Jew and find the Asshole's post anti-Semitic.

I think what's being referred to is that Bob, for some unknown reason,
chose to start a new thread by quoting and snipping what somebody said in a
different thread. It really was pointless, and it had to have been aimed at
somebody.

**** you too! It's not an issue of cuisine, it's an issue of anthropology
and linguistics. I can see you're too overwrought to think clearly; maybe
you should take a few hours to think before posting when you're this worked
up.

You are the one name-calling and falsely attributing, while providing no
data whatsoever to back up your claims. That makes YOU the asshole. You
don't like what I wrote? Then address what I wrote, don't just cast personal
aspersions without addressing the content. Blindly attacking like you did
just makes you a babbling nutcase.

I initially started to write a long answer in which I prove my case
regarding the radiation of the *******ized term from NYC, but it's actually
much easier than that, because your mind is closed to anything I say
regardless. So he

People who are *from* Eastern Europe know that there are many varieties of
borscht. Yet to millions of Americans, borscht means one thing: cold beet
soup. How did so many Americans gain that misconception? You clearly have no
idea, or you wouldn't be so outraged at what I wrote, so you should ASK YOUR
RABBI. If he knows the answer or does any research into it, he'll tell you
the same thing I did.

Go ask him, and then come back when you have something to actually DISCUSS.

Borscht Mary? There's *gotta* be a better name than that!

How about Beet Bomb? Pink Stupefier? Vorscht?

C'mon, there must be SOMETHING better!

It wasn't aimed at anybody. It's just that the discussion had turned to
borscht, so it was appropriate to change the Subject line to agree with the
topic under discussion. I had no idea Boron was going to view it as a
personal attack; her reaction was completely irrational.

*Shrug* the typical N.Y.C. Ashkenazim are an argumentative bunch.

"Sephardic cuisine still retains the character of its unique heritage, a
panoply of foods from many different lands that reflect an intense
intermingling of cultures that were often well-to-do and sophisticated.
It is difficult to identify particular Sephardic foods as Spanish or
Greek or Arab. The movement of the Sephardic community and the unique
blending of cultures gave rise to an assimilated and variegated cuisine."

Yeah, that's why I asked him if he was Jewish. Missed his reference
in an earlier post. He talks down to everybody as if they are
inferior. Ashkanazi Jews as a sub group of the population have the
highest average IQ.

Arrogant. Lacks something.

I met plenty of his type when I lived in NYC.

I don't see it, frankly. He might be wrong, but that doesn't make in
anti-Semitic. If you have counter-evidence, post that.

Terms do get "corrupted" or changed by ethnic communities. See some of
the ones affected by the Italian-American communities in the northeast.

Both "corrupted" and "*******ized" are inflammatory terms. He's an
asshole, and a very good one.

So, what's the argument here?

Frankly, Jews who take any criticisms of Jews, however silly, as
anti-semitic, strike me as assholes. Do we have a contest here?

:-)

I've got several lawn chairs. Do we have any volunteers for the popcorn
and lemonade?

What do *you* call it when a word takes on a different meaning because of
overwhelming misuse? I call it corruption and *******ization.

Looks good - and it does not seem at all Americanised, actually. It is
quite similar to some Polish chlodnik and Lithuanian saltibarsciai
variants. Here is a recipe I posted a long time ago. It is by the late
Jennifer Patterson (of the Two Fat Ladies fame) and was published in The
Spectator, in '95. It contains prawns, which Monika corrected to
crayfish, saying that prawns are rarely used in Polish cooking.

Victor

Chlodnik

small bunch beet tops (leaves), chopped, 4 oz
1 carrot, peeled and sliced
leafy tops of 2 celery stalks
1 small onion, chopped
3 sprigs parsley, chopped
2 pints chicken or vegetable stock
1/2 lb cooked diced beets
12 fluid oz sour cream or yoghurt
salt and freshly ground black pepper
7 oz of cooked prawns, peeled
1 small cucumber
handful of chopped chives or dill

Put the first five vegetables into a medium-sized saucepan and cover
with stock. Bring to the boil and simmer for 15 to 20 minutes, until
the vegetables are tender. Skim off any scum which accumulates. Add
the beetroot dice and cook for a further five minutes. Strain all the
vegetables, reserving the stock. Purée the vegetables in a blender
until very smooth, adding a little of the stock if necessary. Return to
the stock, stirring well to combine thoroughly. Allow to cool. Return
to the blender and add the cream or yoghurt. Blend until smooth and
season well with the salt and pepper. Chill for at least four hours.
Stir in the prawns and garnish with the cucumber and chopped chives or
dill. In Lithuania, there are many variations. Crayfish, strips of
grilled veal, sliced radishes and asparagus tips are added.

Yes, absolutely Twilly is an anti Semite, the tenure of what he wrote proves
it but there is no point in arguing with the racist *******, that's exactly
what he wants... it's not possible to change a racist... you can alwasy tell
a racist, they have no sense of humor... to my knowlege the Twilly bastid
has never even once posted an emoticon that indicates humor. But actually
you need to blame Victor for posting erroneous information, as is his usual
bent, posting obscurities without citing varifiable references, just on his
say-so... he also often posts anti-Semite comments and has also never even
one posted a humorous emoticon.

The thin beet product typically served cold with sour cream, some times
cucumbers, sometimes sliced egg, etc. is indeed the cousine of east European
Jews,"borscht" is a Yiddish word.

The hot heavy bodied version that Victor refers to is the Russian/Ukrainian
dish known as "borshch".

My heritage being Latvian I grew up with both versions.

There is no NY Jewish *******ization, they are two different dishes...
borscht is borscht, as in the infamous Borscht Belt. Twilly is far worse
than a common asshole, he's an ignorant dangerous asshole. Of course Victor
is an anti Semite as well, he's just smarmier/more cowardly about it... I
figured out that Victor was an anti-Semite some fifteen years ago, I've no
doubt whatsoever what kind of asshole Hitler lover he is. I've no doubt if
Victor lived in the US he'd be a white supremist skinhead.

Merriam Webster

borscht

or borsch

noun

Etymology:
Yiddish borsht & Ukrainian & Russian borshch
Date:
1808
: a soup made primarily of beets and served hot or cold often with sour
cream

Sheldon is a crazy person. He says things that border on nonsense.
He makes connection that only a mentally ill person would make.
Seeing him as an asshole is missing the point. He's crazy. He
capitalized "Asshole" although he preceded it by an article. If we
find out that he has had a brain tumor, I won't be a bit surprised.

You just put those shellfish in there because you're anti-Semitic and
you hate Jews and you don't want Jews to get to eat it so you put
unclean things in it. You probably wipe your butt, then you don't
wash your hands before you peel the crayfish, so your so-called
borscht is doubly disgusting and filthy.
Just kidding. I was doing a Sheldon imitation.

I might have bought it if your grammar and spelling weren't so good. ;-)

You also used periods instead of Sheldon's characteristic "..." to indicate
trailing off at the end of a sentence as he stares blankly while drooling.

....says the invertebrate hiding behind its computer! Sheldon, face-to-face
you wouldn't have the courage to say even one-hundredth of the shit you spew
here. Everybody knows it. One slap across your mouth and you'd be blubbering
like a baby.
