Ok, we've all had them. But do you just buy in bulk from some mother selling
them in the office, or do you actually get them from a girl scout? The Girl Scouts usually set up a table in front of the local grocery store. There is usually 5 or 6 of them hawking the cookies. I ask each one what is their favorite cookie and end up buying that particular kind. (ya gotta keep the mothers quiet-they'd sell you a tractor-trailer full). If I personally don't like that kind, I bring it to the office-doesn't last very long. I have four grocery stores in my immediate area. Sometimes I am really glad that they only sell the cookies once per year-my freezer can't take anymore. You? |

Kswck, At the house, the GS would come escorted by parents and solicit cookies and it was an instant transaction. I remember as a kid, Mom would, at our command, fill out a ticket with checkmarks and handed it back and in two or so weeks they were delivered. Nowadays, like you describe, they just set up shop in front of the supermarket entryway. My favorites were thin mints and do-si-dos! I felt gyp'd that they weren't available year round. Best, Andy -- What should I make for breakfast? http://alturl.com/wo3y |

I always buy three to five of each, Thin Mints and a Lemon sort. I usually freeze two of each so as to not only have an immediate office share with my Marines, but to also have some to bring in for them a month later. I would much rather buy from the always uniformed and sweet door-to- door sales, but my home is rarely seen by any. I don't grocery shop often enough to catch sales there from the actual girls, so for many years now I have bought from fathers aboard the USMC base whom I know well, and they are also the ones who bring their uniformed daughters in for the actual deliveries and thank yous. ....Picks |

I've never bought any and never would because I don't want to support a paramilitary organization for girls or anybody else. |

I usually only buy a handful of boxes which is why it amuses me when they say the cookies freeze well. They don't last long at all in my house. If I bought that many, I might have leftovers. nancy |

It IS nicer that way, I think. Better learning experience for them, too, IMHO. But we live in a very pedestrian-friendy area, which I think helps. The Thin Mints are the BEST!! Kris, who's daughter sold 164 boxes this year! |

The selling of girl scout cookies seems to be dominated by over-eager mothers. Two mothers at work are both courting everyone at work into buying cookies. You can even buy them on eBay. While I don't think little girls should be going door to door, they should be doing more than givin them all to mom. When's the last time you saw a father pushing GS cookies? (OK, some of you will undoubtedly say you have seen it, but most of us haven't). ObFood: Lunch was a home-made cured and smoked pork loin sandwich with tomatoes, mayo, and San Del Hot Pickled cherry peppers. With mustard potato salad. -sw |

Oh, you did it now, Mark! Let the cat out of the bag. Well, time for full disclosure. Girl Scouts actually train with the U.S. Navy Seals and the CIA. Currently, they have been successfully and covertly inserted into Iraq, Iran and Afghanistan. These "sleeper cells" await orders from POTUS and upon receiving said orders, will inundate the targeted countries with Thin Mints, Samoas® and Do-Si-Dos®, thus causing total mayhem and collapsing the countries political and military infrastructures. A "black ops" program, in place since the Coolidge administration. Truth be told the GSA specializes in nuclear and radiological warfare. Keep your Geiger counter at the ready! |

Sure. If you want partially hydrogenated palm kernel oil, be my guest. The folks who run GSA should be shot. On quite a few of their cookie's nutrition labels it says "palm and/or partially hydrogenated..." which is an admission that non-hydrogenated palm oil works fine, and could be used exclusively.
